Hi

I just built the following system and am experiencing some problems:

CPU AMD Athlon 64 3000+ S939

Motherboard Asus A8N - SLI Deluxe

RAM Corsair CMX 256A 3200 C2 2x256mb

HDD Seagate Barracuda 120gb SATA

Video Card Sparkle Geforce 6600GT PCI-E

Case Thermaltake Tsunami Dream With 400W PSU

DVD Burner Pioneer 109D

It is up and running but sometimes when i turn the pc on it starts up and about 4 or 5 seconds after i turn it on it just turns off.... then when i turn it on again it boots fine. It does it intermitantly around 2 or 3 times a week generally after it has been left for a while.

Generally it boots fine and most of the time starts up everytime i press the on button.

Any idea as to what the problem could be???

Any help would be great

Prime Suspect = PSU

As you say the system runs, once you get started, sounds like the PSU is having problems coping with peak demand on bootup.

It's not necessarily the Wattage rating of the PSU that determines whether the unit is up to the job and some of the cheaper brands over exagerate the paper specifications.

What make of PSU is it that you have? and let us know the ratings for the 3.3V, 5V and 12V rails (from the label on the side of the PSU)

The PSU is a Thermaltake model: XP480

It came with the case and specs are:

Input: 115/230V - 8/6A
Output: 400W (500W peak load)
+5V: 28A
+3.3V: 20A
+12V: 17A
-5V: 0.5A
-12V: 0.8A
+5VSB: 2.0A

I have been searching google and it seems others have these problems with same motherboard. The PSU has a 20 pin connector and motherboard has 24 pin i have no purchased an adaptor so i am only utilising the 20 pins.

Sorry for delayed response
