A friend here at work is have a problem with her father's computer and I can't find anything on the web to help. Thought maybe some AT'ers might have an idea. The machine is an HP running Windows 98SE(I know, I know, boooo hissssssss). He's got an RCA DCM425 cable modem(didn't even know RCA made cable modems) and no NIC so it's got to be plugged in via usb. Even though the drivers are installed and the modem works in Windows, the pc will not boot with the modem plugged in. It hangs when it is loading Windows. As long as he boots up without the modem plugged in and plugs it in after Windows is booted, it will work fine. Wondering if any of you ahve had experiences with Windows hanging up during boot due to a USB device and if you've found any solutions. I think I might tell her to just get him a network card and connect the modem that way. Would probably be the easiest fix.
