boot problem after deleting linux

incinerator

Junior Member
i was dual-booting with XP and Fedora Core 4. I was just trying to learn some linux, but needed the space so i deleted the partition using Partition Magic.

upon restarting i find:
GNU GRUB version 0.95
minimal BASH-like editing is supported......
grub>

i never got around to really learning linux so i'm not sure what to do here. but i am sure that that entire partion should be gone.

also, when booting before this, i had a short period of time (3 sec.) to push a button to select the operating system, otherwise it would automatically boot to Fedora. My guess is that it is trying to find Fedora and it just isn't there, but if that is the case, i still don't know how to fix it.

thanks in advance for any help

Which one was installed first?
WinXP?
I don't know Linux either, but I bet you deleted the file that enabled the boot menu.
In WinXP it's boot.ini, I don't know what it is in Linux.

Maybe a Linux person will chime in.:music:

Maybe this thread will help:

or This one maybe

insert windows cd and boot it up

go into recovery mode

then the command is fixmbr (i think)

that should remove grub and put back the windows bootloader

I too had this problem, but somehow it'll load to windows now.
There is a problem still though, the startup is extremely slow to windows.
I fixed the partitions for the most part by using Acronis Disk Suite.

Exactly, there are two options to try to fix the boot sector to wipe the linux stuff.
