boot partition repair?

I'm fixing a friends computer, and fixed everything except 1 issue I don't know too much about.

Basically on boot, it asks him to select what operating system to boot in. Both options are windows xp. I just formatted the hard drive thinking it'd get rid of it, but it didnt.

Anyways, I think the boot partition on the hard drive just needs to remove the other xp option or what not but not sure how to proceed... any ideas?

so one option works and one doesn't? If you are just trying to remove an unnecessary entry just edit the c:\boot.ini file with notepad. You might figure it out just by looking at it, you might need to do some research to be able to figure out which one to remove. Do not remove the wrong one or somehow other mess up that file or will not be able to boot at all and it's harder to fix from the recovery console.

Do what Cutthroat said:

My Computer -> Properties -> Advance tab -> Startup and Recovery/Settings -> Edit -> Remove the OS that isn't needed.

edit: Oh, and it is critical that you delete the right one, just as Cutthroat said.
