Hi,

I recently bought a load of new components and built the computer today, the specificaiton is:

DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb (Socket 754) Motherboard (MB-010-DF)
AMD Athlon 64 3400 Newcastle 130nm (Socket 754)
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5
Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 Pro 256MB DDR3 VIVO TV-Out/DVI (AGP)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 120GB 6Y120MO SATA 8MB Cache
Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 80GB
NEC DVD Writer
Pioneer DVD ROM

Basically, we have installed a fresh new copy on the Maxtor (SATA) drive after doing a full format, the other drive still has data left on it. Now, once we load up windows after installing it we got the "NTLDR is missing" error, so we copied it over to the Maxtor drive using the repair function from booting off the cd. Every time we load up the computer now the computer just gets caught in a loop when it gets to booting from the Maxtor drive, then sounds like it restarts and does the same thing again. We have tried installing the latest drivers for the Maxtor drive using the latest SATA drive found on the DFI website by pressing F6 when installing Windows, but the same problem still occurs.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

If you want to install XP on SATA, you had better remove the other hard drive from the PC, make SATA bootable (in BIOS), and re-install XP.

Then, XP on SATA will be drive C and all the ncessary files (NTLDR, boot.ini, ...) will be in the right place (on SATA) and contain the right data. Then, you can hook up the other drive. But, make sure that SATA has boot priority over the other drive. It should work then.
