Boot Loader question, HELP!!!

Mule

Golden Member
I have Win98 and Win2000 on my system on C and D drive respectively and the default was to load win2000, but I wanted to change that to win98, and I messed with the boot.ini file and now its all f*cked up, this is what the boot loader presents:

Windows 2000 Professional
Windows 98
Windows 98 (default) <---Highlighted

Now the problem is that it tries to load up on the highlighted item and it just gives me an error when booting, I have to manually select win98 or win2k now everytime, here is my boot.ini file if anybody can help me:

<boot.ini>

[boot loader]
timeout=30
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"

</boot.ini>

CAN ANYONE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can do 1 of 2 things. 1 is to boot into Windows 2000, Right-click on My Computer and go to the properties. From there, click on Advanced, then Startup/Recovery. You will be able to select what will be the default OS selected, the amount of time, etc.

The second option you have is to add a line into the BOOT.INI file.

It should be:

default=the ARC path of the OS

for example:

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT

Hey Chris/Shadow07: Can I borrow those letters after your name for a couple of years? I am on that track too, but probably about a year away from them. How was the CCNA test?

Um, let me think about that. I wouldhave to say no. LOL

Stay on that track. It will do you good. As far as the CCNA v2.0 test, it really wasn't that hard. If you have any experience with TCP/IP and the IOS, you will pass the test.
