Boot.ini randomly gets erased!?

fs5

Lifer
2nd time in one day... boot up windows and it says invalid boot.ini, then it starts looking for a hal.dll or something.

I have to to use the windows recovery console and "bootcfg /rebuild" and everything will be back up. I look on the net for a virus/trojan but didn't find anything.

I have norton AV running with latest defs... I ran a full system scan and nothing.

Have you tried running "fixboot" or "fixmbr" from the recovery console?

I did the first time it happened but it didn't change anything. The second time I only used the bootfix /rebuild.

I reinstalled windows last night (been a LONG time since I've done that). Maybe it was the updates I did to my computer via windows update. After I did that my windows start time increased by 3 fold!
