If I install XP on a Boot Camp partition, will I be able to uninstall it without having to reformat everything? It won't delete the data I already have on my Mac partition right?
 
Nope, you'll be fine. I did this a while ago myself due to much frustration and many problems and it worked.
 
yes, it's quite painless but I've restoring to one partition take all of a few seconds and as much as an hour before. So if it seems like it is hung up, just let it work.
