I'll stick to the high points and make this short.
PC was running Vista 64 and all current hardware perfectly fine until I ran out of space on my 74g Raptor and swapped it out for a 640 WDBlack.
Issue #1
Right after the first boot with the new install and drive I started having trouble with the POST. It will partially POST and show the CPU and memory but will hang up before it detects the drive. I can't get in the BIOS when this happens because the KB is frozen.
I discharged the CMOS and tried again. I got to the BIOS and loaded the defaults but it didn't solve the problem. I either get no beep or one "OK" beep if it gets past the POST. PnP OS option is set to Yes.
If I turn the PSU off, back on and then restart the computer it will boot.
Issue #2
When I finally do get it to boot and load the logon screen, the Logitech G-18 mouse will be frozen solid about 50% of the time as if it is undetected. I can reboot using the keyboard, and if I get past the POST and start Vista the mouse will usually work, but again it's a 50-50 shot. Once loaded there are no problems at all.
I've hobbled it through the numerous MS updates and as of today I have every update available. However, the problem is still there.
I would normally say it's the power supply but everything worked perfectly before swapping the drive last night. Also, the drive tested okay.
Specs:
ASUS M2N-E (not the SLI)
X2-5600
ATI HD4850\512meg card
Corsair 550W PS
2x4 sticks of DDR2-800
1x640g WD Black
2 LG DVD drives
1 PCI-USB\1394 card installed but not being used at the moment.
1 Gig-e Ethernet PCI
Using onboard sound
Everything was perfect before the new drive and reinstall.
Any idea why I have trouble with the POST and the mouse?
Voltages are within 5.5% of spec.
