I need some books for a friend of mine that did bad on the SAT. I want to prepare her the best for the next SAT test. I'm specifically looking for language expression and study skills books.

when i was in eighth grade they had a program for some of the smarter students to take a SAT test (the real thing) and i got a 1050.
the english killed me, the math was a joke. Just like when i took the real thing: 790 math, 500 english.

Teach the kid to read a dictionary--sound useless--wtf do you think those blank is to blank as blank is to blank questions are.

I assume you mean those ghetto SATs that schools make all the kids take? Don't worry about those, they don't mean sh!t.

My son got an 1150 on the SAT when he was in the 7th grade.

I think his last one was a 1550 or so.

34 on the ACT

Smart kid.

Never learned to study in high school though, that hurt his grades when he got to college.

in the 6th grade the sats should be the least of their worries. there is still half a decade before they mean anything. sure its good to prepare early but thats just crazy.

Best way to prep for SATs is to read a lot. Just read books and look up all the words you don't know. Then, about two months before you actually take the test get the 10 real SAT book. Start taking practice tests and figure out why you got each problem wrong. As for vocab, the SAT generally has about 100 words that appear on 99% of the tests. That's how I studied at least.

750 - Verbal
750 - Math

if she's only in the 6th grade, she needs to be learning how to put on makeup and wear hooker boots by now... At least that's what all the girls were doing when I was in 6th grade.

Also, if she thinks she can get some extra help, have her try seducing her teachers. Then she can end up on Jenny Jones! Wait, it was canceled...

She's in the 6th grade... she SHOULD be doing bad on the SAT. Teach her math or something.

I got a 1500 on the SAT, but a 1550 PSAT. I get stupider every year. If I took it now I would get like a 1000. But I'm in college and AP classes in HS taught me to study.

I don't think those scores ever came through on my final transcripts even. I believe they are just diagnostic scores for the schools and for the county/state to give out money based on (at least that was my impression in Florida). It is important that she try her hardest just because they might make you do a class if they judge you need remdial work but it is not critical that she should go above and beyond spending that much time studying. I'd say it is much more important at this age that she learn concepts and information rather than focusing on studying specific problems for a specific test that doesn't mean much.

lordy those were the EASIEST FREAKING TESTS KNOWN TO MANKIND. if she does well in school she should be fine. there's only so much you can prep her for! go over her spelling, do some reading comprehension drills with her, go over some vocab, do some simple math expected for sixth graders, etc. its basic knowledge tests.

Rofl... AP classes taught me how to slack off. I took 10 classes, 13 tests. My senior year with five AP classes, I had more free time than my sophomore year with only 1.
Course, I'm paying for it now....

As for the SAT-9's (which is the original topic), those things are a bloody joke. You don't really need to study for those, considering it's really meant to be a test of exactly what's being taught in class. If the students fail en masse, it's an indication the school needs to reconstruct the curriculum.
Actually, I think you should encourage her and the rest of her class to fail. It'll probably add support for increased spending for education, which is almost as underfunded as NASA.
