I'm running a 1700xp+, Leadtek gf3 ti200 and 256mb ddr on a soyo dragon+. I see slowdown in MOHAA, Max Payne and RTCW @ 1024x768 and 32bit. I'm not sure if I should be laggin like I am at that resolution on my rig when I've heard of people with slower specs run those same games flawlessly. Everything is stock straight outta' the box. I'm looking for tips on how to maybe boost performance a bit or if I am just over reacting and should tone down settings. Thanks. I'm sure you guys (and gals) get alot of similar questions, but if you're bored (as I am) please respond. thanks.

First of all.... do you turn off your anti virus auto protect when you play games? It slows down the system a lot.

Also make sure you've got Agp set to 4x and 64mb aperture.

Cancel uneeded processes. like file sharing especially. they devour ram.

Make sure you dont have 4x FSAA and full anisotropic filtering turned on.... that would slow it down.

If you've done all this..... then all I can suggest from your system specs is upgrade to 512mb ram.

I'm running a T-bird 1400mhz, 512Mb ddr, and a GF3 ti 200. SO VERY similiar to yours.

I haven't played mohaa lately, but Wolfenstein and Jk II ( basically the same engines JkII a little more advanced) both run at nearly 100fps at those settings.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. Well, I have all of those off when I play and i still see slowdown. I guess i should consider getting some more ram. I started up max payne at 800x600 and still saw some slowdown. It's very playable, just I don't think I should be seeing the slowdown. Thanks again.

Its definetely the ram (especially when you are running a heavy OS too like WinXP for instance). Go buy another stick of 256MB DDR RAM and your problems will be solved.

I agree 100% 256MB of RAM is just not enough for XP.
