BOOoOOoHOoOoo...would u drop a course if u did really bad in the midterms?

For my program i have to take the introductory statistics course which has the following mark breakdown

Midterm 1 30%
Midterm 2 30%
Final Exam 40%

The first midterm is all about probability crap and I did very bad in in it 🙁 ony a 40% That i means i lost 18% of my mark already in the course. I just couldn't understand the concept and when i have 5 midterms with 3 days, life was hell. Class average was 65% 🙁

Some advice is needed, should i drop the course? Or be a true roman and fight on to the death?

I talked to the prof and he recommended students not to drop if one did bad on this test because the remaining of the material will never touch probability again, it will be normal distribution...

How hard is normal distribution in the introductory level? Oh yeah, the prof also said that at the end of the course, he'll bell curve the class average to a low 70 to high 60

we pay a flat fee of CDN$4500 per semester and u take as many course as u can

i have 7 courses now, i did pretty good on the 5 other exam with the exeption of Microeconomics.

the 2 stats course is a requirement, if i drop this one, i can't take the second part of the stats next semester

If he is curving the course at the end you should be fine. You still have 70% of the class left to kick ass and raise your grade back up. When I was in college I got a 13% on an electromagnetics midterm (class average was about 30%) and I still managed to get a B in the class.

how on earth did u do that?

the good thing is that there will be no more probability on the rest of the course!

I had to take an accounting class and it was supposed to be an intro course. The lady tried teaching like corporate accounting 901 to us. The only reason most of us passed was because of grade curving. Turned my straight F into a B.

intro stats is pretty easy other than probability. normal distribution and the rest of the stuff should be very simple as long as you attend lecture and go over a couple practice problems a week.

stats is hard to cram for and learn overnight b/c there is so much stuff to get confused on.

Looks like you already dropped your English course, you might as be consistent and drop this one as well.

I say fight to the end.

Then again, my transcript isn't the prettiest.

O 'course, at my school you have to drop before the midterms. So the decision is harder. Very easy to rationalize "oh, well I'll do better on the midterm."

wow, oddly I was in your shoes for an intro stats course... On the first test, we had 6 questions. Like a moron, to make things easier, I simplified the odds of getting 40 out of 90 to 4 out of 9. Oooops. Everything else was perfect! But, the prof: "I never give partial credit" No possible way for me to pull off at least a B, so I withdrew on the last day possible.
Next semester, I didn't show up until the first exam. Prof said "I counted the chairs, and if everyone shows up, we're going to be 2 desks short. But, one student called from the infirmary and there's one who I don't count on showing up. I raised my hand at that point and said "I'm here!" I didn't quite ace it, but pretty close.

When will midterm 2 take place and when in the final drop date?

If midterm 2 happens after final drop date... drop the class to ensure you do well in your other classes. If midterm 2 happens before final drop date, at least stick around to see how you can do on a different subject matter.

dude, if you can't deal with the first material in an intro to stats class, i'm sorry to say it isn't going to get any easier for you.
