Books related to good PC games - any suggestions?

Oh man, some really intriguing suggestions in here! Roadside picnic, Nightwatch, etc...wow. And thanks for that Planescape Torment link!! I've heard great things about the game's story/plot. RPGs are new to me, but that ones on the to-play list.

I've read the first 3, and Fall of Reach and First Strike were fun, fast, reads. The Flood was too much like playing through Halo CE so that was disappointing. Enjoyed the back story on the characters, it isn't as shallow of a story line, once you have read the books.

Some gaming experiences are multimedia ones now, that require more than just playing the title to get full enjoyment from them IMO. It isn't a new concept, it is just that a movie, TV show, nor book, proceeded the game in these cases. The idea is that, reading the books will significantly enhance the story line, and provide the necessary back story on the characters, to help the reader/gamer develop an emotional attachment to them. Or you can see it as milking the franchises for every last dollar they can squeeze out of us. I don't feel that way, but understand why some would. I prefer it too hours and hours of cut scenes to explain things.

Another I'm looking forward to is, Gears of War: Pendulum Wars.

I realize these are console first games, and good is subjective, still fun reads though. 🙂

AoC is based off of books.... age of conan that is.

It just occurred to me that Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth is an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's writing. I think there are more examples of Lovecraft's work in games, but can't think of them offhand. The survival/horror genre probably has more than a few literary inspirations...

I know it's a crime to say this but..

Contact Harvest based off the Halo series is the only good book I have read that is based off a game. No where near one of the best books I've read but it is good.

The book is about first contact with the covenant.

Looks like a great recommendation:thumbsup:. I do believe I've heard of that, and not within the context of PC gaming😉.

You know i did try a Rainbow Six novel, but just couldn't get into it. I've got enough to keep me going during non-gaming time, but keep the ideas coming if you have them.

I know mystery adventure gaming is full of these kinds of examples (Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, Nancy Drew).

Star Trek was a good call.

Atlas Shrugged was a great book.
