I want new stuff to read and I have been looking around to see what is interesting and what I would like. Unfortunately It's really hard to get a bearing on what I would find interesting because there is just so much stuff out there. I guess some of you guys probably have some good suggestions to make.

Right now I have been reading mostly Scifi, Fantasy and mystery thrillers. I guess I could be open to something different as well.

I am going to list some of my favorite books so you guys can have a bit of a bearing on what I do like.

My favorite scifi books are Dune, God emperor of Dune and Heir to the empire.

My fantasy favorites include The hobbit, Homeland and the Crystal shard.

As far as mystery novels are concerned I really Like Dan Brown. I also enjoyed Black order and the last templar.

This is just for some good suggestions. I am open to different things.

The Eragon Series, Ender's Game series, Childhood's End by Arthur C Clarke, Alas Babylon by Pat Frank, 1984, and perhaps the Left Behind series if you can get around the religious overtones.

I really enjoyed Timewatch by OSC, first few books in the enderverse is always fun. Just read The Kite Runner for a class and I enjoyed it.

Ender series, Harry Potter series, Hitchiker's guide to the galaxy series, Song of Ice and Fire series, His Dark Materials series.

George R.R. Martin - Song of Ice and Fire

Steven Erikson - Malazan Book of the Fallen

These are the two best. Erikson is better than Martin because he continues to release a book every 1.5 years while it takes Martin 5. Robin Hobb is also a great fantasy author.

In the realm of modern day paranormal the Dresden Files are about the only thing worth reading.

Dan Simmons - Hyperion is the best Science Fiction I've read.

Other recomendations
Alan Campbell - Scar Night
Neil Gaiman - anything though I particularly like Neverwhere.
Neil Stephenson - Zodiac, Snowcrash, The Diamond Age are all excellent.

Some good books in this thread.

If I might suggest something non-scifi/fantasy ...
All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy, and many of his other novels (All the Pretty Horses is a good place to start).

I've also seen people raving about this Gene Wolfe guy and I'm considering buying one of his books to see if I like him or not.

Gene Wolfe is hit or miss for most people. It's a steep learning curve to try and figure out what's going on in his stories. That said, I recommend The Book of the New Sun.

I wish there was something like Pandora for books that you could input what you've read, then rate it from 1 to 5 or 1 to 10 and then have it make suggestions from there.

I'm always looking around for new authors to read but nothing sucks more than getting a book that sounds great to only turn out to be a big drag to read.
