Red Dragon by Thomas Harris, then Silence of the Lambs. Then assume he never wrote a book after that and you're golden.

James Clavell, Terry Prachett, Patrick O'Brian, Agatha Christie, Thomas Harris, Kurt Vonnegut are some of the authors that I see on my bookshelf at the moment. Any of their books are a good bet.

EDIT: Oooh, I also have Steinbeck. Read "Of Mice and Men" for a really good afternoon book.

"Becoming a prowling Animal of Prey in the Boardroom" or "How I Made More Money by Pretending I wasn't a Balless Pushover" by [some Jewish name]

Ok, I made that up.

I always recommend what I'm reading currently, and right now I'm reading "Homeland" by R.A. Salvatore. It's the first book of his Dark Elf Trilogy. I Just got finished with his Demon Wars books and this is shaping up to be way better than those.
