Book Recommendation: Unbroken. Possibly the most gripping WWII book I have ever read.

I am interested in this book as well. Is it as exaggerated as sounding as some claim it to be? Not sure if I should read this version or Devil at My Heels.

I've been reading this book on my nook color for a few days now and its a decent read. I must have not gotten to the really good stuff yet, because I'm still at the part where they are training in Oregon??? in their plane in anticpation of being sent to the pacific theater. Nothing overly gripping yet, but i imagine that wont come until later on.

You don't want that. Read the book, trust me. A movie could only fuck this story up like it has so many other books.

The ONLY way to cover so much is to make a mini series as long as Band of Brothers. And I doubt that's gonna happen. The book is better than any movie could ever be.

oh no (according to wikipedia and therefore to be taken with a grain of salt):

"A film based on his life story and starring Nicolas Cage is under development."

I'm pissed...

I went home for SB, and my mom had this book lying there, so i picked it up and started reading it...

i was busy, so I only got to chapter 2 of part 2 prior to leaving... where i forgot to bring it with me... ARGGG

it was a great book so far, i believe i was to the point after their first air raid returning with almost no fuel... so not happy...

Just wanted to thank Amused for the great recommendation. I picked up this book for my Kindle about a week or so ago and just finished it last night. This is a terrific story and kept me engaged the entire way through.

I wish I could still read. I got the book on my Kindle but even though the story is cool as hell, I read two pages, get ADD and wander off. 🙁

Sounds like a good read. I'll have to try and remember this one if I ever have time between technical books and a few hundred ebooks I've yet to "catch up" on.

Bolded part is sooooo true for so many books that get made into movies.

I cannot think of a single book I've read that a movie was made after and was better than the book.

The only somewhat consensus others seem to agree on is Lord of the Rings, which I have not read, yet.

Even the TV mini series isn't a sure fire solution.

Take The Stand by Stephen King. Great book (and I'm no King fan) and the TV movie/mini series was just a joke.

I'll have to check it out. Have you read "With the Old Breed" at all Amused? Fantastic book about the Island Hopping in the Pacific.

Just wanted to chime in with thanks for the recommendation! I finished it a couple weeks back and enjoyed it immensely. If anything
I was hoping that Louis would've gotten the chance to confront 'The Bird'
but it doesnt change the fact that this was a terribly fascinating and an amazing story and I hope Hollywood doesn't screw it up when they make it a movie.

Marked as I forgot to do so the first time and I forgot about it. Just finished up The Road so I need a new book.

I heard about this book a few months ago while reading the New Yorker magazine. It was one of their recommended reads.

Will check it out.

Finished this book last week. It was very good. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down. Anyone else have any recommendations?
