The information I found said that Uhaul was getting too may lawsuits dealing with the ford explorer. It must be pretty bad if Uhaul is willing to piss off all the explorer owners.
i emailed Uhaul headquarters and i actually got a reply
this is it-
Dear Mr. & Ms. Thompson:
Thank you for your communication received by our Customer Service Department.
Thank you for your request for information on our policy regarding Ford Explorers. This policy is not related to any safety issues. U-Haul policy is based solely on business reasons. U-Haul has chosen not to rent behind this tow vehicle.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and we are happy to work with customers in finding alternative options to help with their move.
Sincerely,
Janet Stats
U-Haul Customer Service
You're kidding, right? We've had 3 Explorers in my family so far (one's life was tragically cut short when my dad panic-stopped to avoid the semi in front of him that lost control but the motorhome behind my dad didn't stop) and they're all been tow vehicles for at least 1.75 tons regularly without any maintenance problems. Heck, I towed more than two tons from NH to Ohio through mountains with one and never had any problems. The first one had over 150,000 miles on it when we traded it in, the second had over 100,000 miles on it when it was totaled, and the current Explorer has over 140,000 miles on it. It still drives and runs perfectly.Originally posted by: Jzero
Explorer transmissions are failure-prone even under normal loads, let alone towing a load!Originally posted by: GRIFFIN1

Uhaul does NOT guarentee that they will have your trailer. You can only hope that they have it in when you need it.
