a) He's not the friendliest guy in the world
b) He's been the most dominating baseball player in the past decade

People cheating is not surprising in this sport, it's almost come to be expected. But there always needs to be a scapegoat to blame all of baseball's problems on, and unfairly it's been Bonds, for the pure fact that baseball is a numbers game and he is about to break the most coveted number of them all.

If Bonds was a .270 hitter with 20 HRs a year, no one would give a sh*T about him, it's too bad..

Past decade? You give him too much credit. He was a very good player throughout his career, but didn't explode and come into his new self until the 2000-2001 seasons.

Funny that you quote 20 something homeruns and a .270 average, which was Bonds stats for last year.

And of course nobody would give a crap about him if those were his career numbers. He wouldn't be getting into the HoF, he wouldn't be breaking records, and he wouldn't be investigated for perjury. That doesn't change the fact that superstars such as him or the lowliest .270 avg hitter still shouldn't be using the juice or amphetamines.

If he ends up in the hall of fame its a total joke.
i don't see how he can get in the HOF especially since they just denied McGuire.

The main reason I can see Bonds getting in while McGuire might not is due to the fact that Bonds was HOF material sans drugs; McGuire, not a chance.

It means he's the same kind of man that Palmeiro was, blaming his steroids on a B12 shot given to him by Tejada.

Though it does appear super-odd that he knows the exact details of everything that he's proven to have taken... but when it comes to the obvious steroids & HGH & what-not, he hasn't any clue how it happened. Makes ya wonder.

Or maybe it's just a big part of his entire alibi, that he will shove anything into his body that others tell him to without hesitation?

listen knee jerkers There are amphetamines in many things.....him testing positive once is not guilt that he was a consistent abuser.

Yep. Like I said before, it's going to be an issue of whether or not the amphetamine use and supposed steroid use, along with possible perjury keep him out of the Hall. Not to mention if he breaks the HR record if the pissed off analysts want to keep him out of the hall.

Did it really suprise you after he said that he didn't know what he was putting in his body with the whole cream/clear controversay?

not knowing is one thing. but to place all the blame on a teammate is another.

but yes WTF is he doing takeing a drug he does not know what it is?

With Bonds it is all about deflecting blame. An athlete with a mutli-million dollar salary with access to the best nutritionist and trainers in the world, and he says he's bumming pills off of teammates and not knowing what he's putting in his body.

I agree completely. This guys career is all about how he takes care of his body, and he has personal trainers and nutritionists, yet he claims to not know what he is putting in his body and consumes "unknown substances" from teammates, trainers etc. What a crock.

Yea, if you count the negative backlash and damage to his reputation (and really to the game itself thanks to players like Bonds), then he could be denied.

3 MVPs in the 90s, that's not too bad at all.

90, 92, 93. Nothing compared to his 2001-2004 consecutive MVPs of the supposed juicing times. Now that's dominating.

He had medicore numbers in 2005 and 2006 because of injury, so his only really dominating years of the past decade were the 2000-2004 seasons. Not to say he wasn't a damn good player pre-2000, but his dominating seasons coincide with the claims of heavy drug use.

Bleh, Bonds was always HOF bound without the last few years of home run dominance.

I honestly don't care. The HOF honors people who excelled in their era. This is the steroid era and Bonds was the best of the steroid users. He gets in.

As do almost every single other player who appears on the ballet for the first time. He was not denied, he was passed over for this year.
Enlighten me. So you are saying it is common procedure for everyone to get passed over the first time?

You think McGuire will be in the next time his name comes up?

Unless you're a stud (Ripken, Gwynn, Brett, Aaron, etc) you have a very slim chance of getting in the first time.

Hopefully Mac never gets in and it sets a precedent for all others. The problem with Bonds is that he was a HoF before the juice. With Mac, he didn't exactly have stellar career numbers besides a few categories (which were definitely inflated because of his supposed juicing years). It's going to be an issue of whether or not the drug use was enough of an issue to keep him (Bonds) out.

Rose was a stud before far less game harming actions caused him to be more or less expunged. If Mac, Bonds, or any other roid freak gets in, Rose should get in.

It could have been Ephedrine or Psuedoephedrine (Sudafed) which is considered Amphetamines and is outlawed by Baseball but is legal for citizens. It kind of makes since seeing that he was trying to drop some weight to alleve the wear and tear on his surgically repaired knees.

Different circumstances for Rose. I do however, agree that he should be in the Hall of Fame. Same with Bonds. McGwire not so much. But, again Bonds was a Hall of Famer before the 2001 season.

Rose broke some rules where as McGwire didn't. Besides, who's to say Ripken didn't take steriods? Because he wasn't bulked up? Look at all the Pitchers that were on Roids or Palmero, none of them were bulked up.

Correct me if I am wrong (got this from a friend). Essentially Baseball was going to get taken down as a monopoly by the government because of the gambling and such. Essentially they were told to either take a hard-line anti-gambling stance, or get busted. The owners ran scared because they didn't want to lose the revenue, thus they agreed to become gambling nazis.

Rose came in after that and gambled on other games, ones he couldn't fundamentally change. Thus, his activities were no worse than any normal citizens. However, owners, fearing the government response and busting of their monopoly decided to make an example of Rose, effectively saying that nobody, not even a sure-shot HoF'er was safe.

It wasn't about the sanctity of the game, or the pureness of competition, it was about money and they smacked somebody so they could stay rich.

Now, in the last decade, people want to see HRs, so players juiced, attendance went up, owners were happy and revenue flowed in, thus nobody said anything. They instituted more policies after the hey-day and when the government started warning them again, but not a second before. Now that players are caught, they do nothing, because they still make money off of the "big guns".

While the two events are difference circumstances, one definitely harms the game more than another (especially on the player level, where Rose did nothing that bad, while bonds and such effectively cheated the game). It's a level of hypocracy only rivaled by our government.

yeah why would anyone assume that someone who's head grew 3 sizes and gained 40 pounds of solid muscle in his mid 30's was abusing any drugs at all, steroids or otherwise.

this positive test is obviously an anomaly.

Ever take a class in logic?

I am about 99.99% certain that Bonds took steroids. I just have a problem with everyone whining about Bonds when it's obvious the usage goes well beyond him. He's a target/scapegoat and allows you all to remain blinded to the fact that the entire sport was/is plagued with this stuff for the last 10+ years. But keep on whining about Barry, and only Barry, if it makes you feel like taking him down will make the sport a-okay again.
