Bombarded by pop-up ads....WHAT TO DO????

Ever since yesterday, my Dell computer is being invaded by tons of pop-up ads
like every 5 minutes or so. I did get a few once in a while before, but not at this
alarming quantity.

I don't think I downloaded anything to have caused this....not sure though...

What can I do to avoid them????

I am also getting a pop-up ad that says "Get rid of those annoying pop-up
ads!" on a regular basis, and I suspect that company somehow rigged my system.

Pls advise.....

Thanks.

Do what Tetsuo said and I'd also suggest turning off the MS Messenger Service (I assume you are on WinXP so Control Panel->Administrive Tools->Services and find Messenger..set it to disabled).

If you are using IE I'd suggest installing the Google Toolbar which includes a popup stopper too (either that or use Mozilla or Firebird which are better browsers and include a popup killer by default).

Is there anything different that you would recommend to a friend that is having pop-up problems but is running Win 2000?

Thanks!

win2000 or xp, it doesn't matter. same rules apply (except turning off the messenger service which win2000 doesn't have).
