Bolt is no more

After seeing my first one up close and in person yesterday, I thought...this MIGHT work for us...then this news hit this morning. With the reports of Bolts vpcatching fire...and GM advising owners to NOT park them in the garage...probably good that they're discontinuing the model.

And EVs in general are a fire risk as NEW CARS because the mechanism are in close proximity.

Whereas, a gas car might light up due to being old(oil everwhere) or invaded by rodents.

I think you need to consider the speed of incidents of EV's. If a EV car catches fire going 40mph. That would be a problem but a lot of these accidents are happening at 100mph+.
 
GM is moving all of their electrics to the new platform. Saying they are killing the dream of affordable electrics is just grandstanding.

People with Bolts made out well, they all got new batteries. Yes, they should not have cought fire, also, GM responded to a very low probability event.
Neighbor of mine has 2 of them.

The rate of fires of EV's is lower than that of IC cars.

"Rates" create a false equivalence. No one expects a new ICE car to go toast itself in a garage, not even governments impose connected smoke detector requirements in garages.

That's because the flammable material and the spark are separated and brand spanking new wiring shouldn't be an issue. .

No android auto or apple carplay, though so it's DOA.
 
I saw one an hour or two ago at the grocers parking lot. bluish champagne silver very nice looking vehicle. It was the first bolt I'd ever seen. Im ambivalent on ev's and prefer hybrids due to having a normal gas vehicle feeling and some extra juice via the battery and then there's the gas savings. getting 30-40 in city and up to 60 on highway is blessful.

Isn't the Equinox bigger than the Bolt? Just checked, like a foot longer. 4.6m vs Bolt EUV's 4.3m

There was a lot of speculation that the Bolt is being discontinued partly because the LG battery fiasco tarnished the model irreparably. Personally, I don't see it that way because there are very few sub- $30k BEVs in the U.S. to even consider; and the Bolt kind of owns the (tiny) category. It checks off an awful lot of boxes, excepting competitive fast charging.

Beyond the shift to the Ultium platform (which doesn't preclude building a true Bolt successor), Americans just hardly buy small passenger cars anymore, and when they do it's an Asian brand. GM probably saw no way to make money on Bolt 2.0, so they decided the line ends here. Mind you, the subcompact CUV is essentially a passenger car, replacing the small sedans and hatchbacks of decades past. The Equinox EV fits in with American consumer tastes much better.

Here in WA, if you buy an EV, the first $20,000 of the price has 0 sales tax...BUT, the selling price has to be under $35,000. I think there's 3 or 4 vehicles that qualify for that.
