Do you use Boinc Managers to control your computers?

I tried BAM once, but in my opinion it was easier to just attach my 5 PCs manually than to do it via BAM. But that was during an early stage, if not beta or what have you, so it might be different today. I guess manager are good for folks like amdxborg with dozens of machines.

I've been using BAM since they started limited beta-testing. BAM makes it easy to join new projects, join a team, and attach/detach projects.

If it's a long time since last tried BAM, a nice addition is "Attach all hosts now" and "Detach all hosts now". Another resent addition is the possibility to set "no new work", and "Delayed detach", not sure if this last worked in v5.8.xx or if you needs v5.10.xx... 😱

Of negative things, "Resource share" is limited to 1-1000.
And, it's a long time since last tried, but I never got the "preferences"-part to work. It's possible this has been fixed by now, but in any case, you can set preferences on a single project and it will "propagate" to all the others so BAM working or not isn't really a problem.

I don't bother with a manager - same, BAM was difficult to use in the begnining. I just conect to a project, and let the machines run - 17 of them. I use VNC to monitor them every nown and then.

I would like to have something like the old SETIGate or SETIWatch to see when they stall, but other than that, I am fine.

I use Boincview and it works pretty well. I have one copy running on a spare workstation on my corp lan that I check every so often for the 15 or so machines tied to it. I run another copy on my wife's company lan for the 10 machines there. Helpful to do a quick check to see if any are stuck, etc.
