so umm what do people do when they have body piercings like their nipples and want to fly? dont fly for 6 months after the piercing? or can one purchase plastic stuff to replace the metal.

Yeah, plastic is generally available, but I also don't think there's enough metal there to cause a big problem.

I've noticed that if I do nothing but take my cell phone out of my pocket the thing never goes off. This is with a belt, loose change, keys, etc. I doubt piercings cause much of a problem.

I travel back and forth from Hawaii to the mainland a lot and the only place that my nipple ring sets off is at the Maui airport. and its just a 12guage hoop.

I had a friend with a rather large amount of jewelry, They basically wanded her over every time. She was tight on time to make a flight, so she ran to catch hers, and I leisurely took my time saying goodbye to the rest of the people we were with.
