NCAA won't let them. There was an offer last year too.

True....sad though. That'd be an awesome game.

Did you actually bother to watch either the Sugar Bowl or the Orange Bowl? Auburn should thank God they don't have to play USC and that's all there is to it.

You mean the team that came from behind in the 4th quarter to beat Stanford by 3? That USC?

and the one which stomped all over OU

usc is a very young team, which has gotten better and better as the year went on

if you still argue they are not the best team in the country based on their close calls there is no point agruing with you

besides auburn fans and 3 ap voters apparently, the whole country clearly saw which was the #1 team in the country on tuesday night

Riiiight. Your argument for USC is you can't base it on close calls......but you think because Auburn beat VT in a close make games them not worthy of the #1 ranking.

Gotta love the idiot way of thinking in here.

What about Utah? Since they went undefeated and man handled their bowl game..they should be national champs. Theres a problem...in the polls where you start at the beginning of the season automatically translates into where you finish. No voter is going to vote for Utah (UTAH for christ sakes) over USC..regardless of how good they are/were. Auburn is the same. USC started the season #1 and finished it #1...but does that automatically make them the best team? Nope.

So just because people vote them #1 doesn't really mean much. The same way that just about NO ONE here would have deep down believed that USC would put up 55 points on OK and OK to play so bad. The only way to really know whos the winner?

Play that sh!t on the field. Untill then? STFU it would be an awesome game to watch.

Because USC blew VT out, right? They didn't beat them off a lucky penalty...

If you think something that happened the first week of the season makes your case for you then I don't know what to tell you. I'm talking about what would happen now. Not what happened or would have happened back in August.

The team that beat UCLA in the final minutes?

agreed

Don't agree, that is why they play the game. You just never know who is "on" and who is "flat". It may be the greatest game never played or it could go the way of USC, OU or it could be a blow-out for Auburn.

Gee look, it is someone who watches football and understands momentum. 🙂

Which team was that? Arizona State was the only team to come from behind to beat UCLA.

Did I say anything about coming from behind? I don't think so...

I said won "in the final minutes" which is what happened.

righttt. because a close call in a game you want to make a statement and claim that you deserve an equal share of the title (although the way the system is they probably wouldnt have got it (more apt votes maybe)) is same as a close call in any regular season game right?

i think beating up (handsdown) on the #2 team in the final game of the season offsets close calls one may have in the regular season, but i am a usc fan so i am biased

anyway auburn is a good team, tough luck

The game became close in the final minutes, it was won long before then.

Would you say the same thing about Alabama against Auburn?

BTW, I'd love to see Auburn and USC play. Maybe the result will be like 2002 and 2003 😉

Sorry I was thinking of the wrong SEC rivalry game. Georgia vs Georgia Tech was what I was thinking of, with Tech's QB throwing the ball away on 4th down with a shot at the endzone.

Um Georgia Tech isn' t in the SEC...they are in the ACC. 🙂

Anything based on people's perceptions to determine the champion sucks. Lets face it, everyone at this point would have to rank USC as the #1, and they would probably squash Auburn and Utah etc.... But lets not forget, they said the same thing about Miami versus Ohio State a couple of years ago. I heard the same things then about Miami as what people are saying about USC. Miami would roll. OSU would get wiped out. OSU kept getting lucky and barely beating sucky teams in the final minute. They had no business being on the same field with the canes.

That's why it should be settled on the field. You never know who's gonna win until they play the game. Anything less than a playoff for NCAA football is crap.

The NCAA needs to bypass the BCS and set up their own championship. They could do a playoff easily, without harming the current bowl structure.
And I don't see how it's all about the money, either, because adding a playoff would just make them more.

No they wouldn't. Stop for a minute and think about all the implications of going to a playoff system.

Ok, explain to us then, because every expert and fan other than you wants one.

Reading comprehension. Learn it, love it.

I never said I don't want a playoff. I'd love nothing more than an actual playoff. All I said is it's not in the financial best interest of the individial universities. If you want to tell me how it is in their best interest from a financial standpoint go right ahead.

You made the claim that it wasn't. It is simple to see that we would keep all the other bowl games and replace the major bowls with "playoffs" yet they could be held at the bowls. How would the payouts not be HIGHER, considering they'd play more games(more attendance and TV exposure), and they'd have a postseason that doesn't consist of just random teams playing each other. It would be structured into a playoff and most of the nation would watch. I've yet to even see and argument that explained how it would hurt them financially. Help them yes, but not hurt.
