Bob's Discount Furniture?

Looking to buy a sectional sleeper and Bob's has a great price on the Venus ii line. Reviews are awfully spotty for Bob's - anyone care to share their experience re: the quality of the furniture? The set should cost $1,200, which is great, but Raymour and Flanigan has a similar line for $400 more, which wouldn't be the end of the world in case the quality is substantially different.

Thanks!

*UPDATE*

Went to bobs and the piece in question really was fairly dinky in person, but they definitely had non dinky options that were out of our budget. The super affordable prices seemed to cut corners but I'm not criticizing them for this since their more expensive pieces looked and felt great. The salesperson just had a very weird vibe to her, pushy and dismissive at the same time. We ran out and went to Raymour and was pleasantly surprised by their staff being much more understanding of budget and just friendlier and patient. He also gave us plenty of space and even negotiated with us, bringing their sale price down another 8%. Ended up getting a set that felt super sturdy and looked great for about $100 more than the bob's set.

Not saying that I wouldn't shop at bob's again, just this is a case were raymour worked out better.

When we last went furniture shopping a little under 2 years ago, we ended going with Raymour and Flanigan over Bob's.

There were a couple of comparable pieces between the 2 but most of the items we saw over at R&F had an edge in quality and design.
For our living room furniture, it was worth the premium.

Have you gone to see the sleeper in person at both stores?

I don't know a single person that's been happy with stuff they got from Bob's. Even with the low prices the stuff isn't worth half what you pay for it.

I've see the sleeper at Bob's and seemed pretty sturdy, though I've read online that their cushions give out fairly quickly. Am a bit worried about that since our last couch (macy's) looks 20 years old after only 5 years so durability is important to us. That probably has more to do with my two dogs (now living with inlaws), still...

Happy with your R&F set?

Keep paying ridiculous premium on crap brand-name furniture with marginally better quality (if that). They'll keep loving your brain and wallet.

Do you own bob's furniture? Happy with it? Basically I'm wondering if bob's is a good step up from ikea or a waste of money. $1199 vs $1500 (R&F) isn't a big deal if the furniture will last me longer, but I'm no fan of paying for higher end marketing and theme songs (though bob's commercials are particularly awful).

I furnished every room I have with Bob's, paid very little, it's holding up quite well, no complaints at all.

Of course Bob's is steps up from Ikea.

Ikea never claimed to be quality. They're hip and very functional furniture that use pressed wood. And they're great at what they do (I love them).

Bob's is a legit furniture store with real wood and quality construction. They just don't sell brand names. That doesn't mean it's shit.

Weird how many negative reviews are out there, mostly focusing around long-term durability. Wonder if there are a lot of plants out there.

Thought about it - with 2 cats and a baby, we'll go with bobs even if it's not as sturdy - have a feelign we'll be replacing it in a few years regardless.

We have a bob's set of couch/loveseat and a whole bedroom set. They are of lower quality but honestly, they are not bad for the price.

True, the fact that it's not a brand name doesn't mean it's shit. However, the fact that it's shit means it's shit. There are good no-names and bad no-names. Bob's is a bad no-name.

Depends what you buy....

The advertised stuff (the whole set for $999!!!!), that stuff is crappy. I know, I have bought it before. You just have to know what to look for. If you stay away from that "special" stuff, you should be fine.

You get what you pay for.... Just think...They are cheaper than Jordan's, but they give you free drinks, ice cream and candy (all Bob's stores)....I mean, for the most part, most places have the same profit margin they have to maintain to stay in business. So, to get those lower prices, corners have to be cut somewhere...

That said, they are not as bad Jennifer Convertibles. I am glad that place went out of business.
