Well technically he is not anything today but in his prime he never failed to make me laugh. To each his own.

It's the kind of humor that old people laugh at. Mostly because that's their generation. For our generation, he is NOT funny. Compare The Simpsons, Seinfeld, or Office Space to Bob Hope... We're so much more evolved, humorously speaking, than him!

i am not old.... and bob hope was NOT my generation. I find him hilarious. Seinfeld i do not find funny.
Bob Hope would tell a humorous story, or a good joke or make fun of himself. Seinfeld and most modern comedians, try to make fun of OTHER people or other situations to get a laugh. Personally i do not find that funny.

I'm 21 years old. I find all of the mentioned comparisons as well as Bob Hope funny. quit making generalizations.

Hopes humor required one to think and apply it to the situation. there was a much broader appeal and audience.

I find those shows funny, but what Bob Hope said was funny, too. I think humor has gone down hill. Whereas a subtle joke that you would get if you were thinking was commonplace to Bob Hope, humor is just laid on our laps, now. Its so simple and I rarely find myself watching a comedy movie or sitcom that really makes me laugh.

Thx for backing me up people....Bob Hope is as Americana as apple pie. His jokes were sophisticated and lacked vulgarity and that is what made him so appealing to millions of people both young and old.

Humor is universal. Just because he told a joke 50 years ago doesn't always mean we can't appreciate it today. People are people, whatever the time period; and I think Hope's jokes had some great universal appeal. You also can't say today's comedy would be the same without him. He affected people; call it evolution, but it's the same reason I like some older music as well. Today's music wouldn't be the same without the Beatles. That doesn't mean Beatles music isn't good today.

Bob Hope, Bill Cosby, Red Skelton..............All time great comedians. They are/were able to get laughs without vulgarity, blatant sexual references, and humilating other people. They told stories, made fun of themselves, and were able to take real life situations and find humor in them and relate that humor to audiences all around the world.

Bob Hope will always have my respect and admiration because he often went into dangerous areas to entertain our troops.

You obviously have no taste at all. That's called "classic humor" from a simpler time. It's timeless. Henny Youngman, master of the one-liners, is another old timer you probably can't appreciate.

I guess these days if it's not some hip kid with nipple piercings wearing Fubu pants and talking about MTV Rocks, it's not funny.

in some respects, humor has "evolved" but do not think that the devo effect has not hit humor. (see: jackass, tom green, most every sitcom, etc) so...the style and medium of humor has changed but a joke is still a joke. it can be funny no matter how old. cyrano and much ado about nothing make me laugh, don quixote is funny to me. road movies still make me giggle as does aqua teen hunger force. not necessarily all the same sort of funny to me, but still funny in their own ways.
bob hope is hilarious. he may seem antiquated at times, but i think that mostly comes off as endearing and sweet so that when those really awesome one-liners come at you its all the more unexpected.

Agreed, MichaelD.

Maybe if Triumph would stop eating up what the media told him was funny, popular, hip, etc... he could appreciate timeless humor and possibly think for himself.

Meh, make assumptions about me wearing baggy pants and earings or some other garbage like that. Bob Hope is still lame. Actually, I see his humour as being the exact opposite of force fed media humor. It's acceptable to most people in the same way as a lame office joke about the weather, or how politicians are crooks, or lawyers, or a number of other over-used jokes like that, is accessible to most people.

Do you guys find the "comedy" sections in Reader's Digest funny also? Things like "Humor in Uniform" and "All in a Day's Work"? That's the level I put Bob Hope on. So if you like Bob Hope and Reader's Digest humor, well at least you're consistent, I guess.
