Boardwalk Empire question: Who is Rothstein boss?

Arnold Rothstein (portrayed by Michael Stuhlbarg), who's the darker skinned guy he has to pay cuts to? Tried to find him on wiki cast but I'm having trouble.

I though Rothstein was his own boss of New York in the show, and has Luciano, Lansky under him.

WTF are you talking about? Rothstein doesn't have a boss and I don't know who this darker skinned guy is.

Especially the last episode or two, ton of things happening, starting to climax. Well, I guess it kind of did when Knucky got shot in the hand.

Anyways, I'll check out IMDB. I had heard Rothstein mention the guy a few times, but it was a specific episode, one where Rothstein caught his 2 underling/associates doing their own business on the side. They end up going to a dinner meeting with Rothstein and this other guy where they are told they have to pay up a certain % if they want to do business in the city. (The other guy barely speaks, and when he does - it is Italian (I think). Luciano speaks back to him in the same language so..)

Anyways they get upset, but go along with it because they have no choice. Then after the meeting they complain to Rothstein and he tells them this is why they have to pay him so much, because he is paying a cut to this other guy and this other guy isn't someone to mess with. Pretty much they pay Rothstein, then Rothstein pays a hefty cut to this other man who is the top dog.

If I find out I'll post it, got to go to class now though.

That guy has territory where Luciano and Lansky have their card game & operation. Rothstein was just playing peacemaker. Rothstein doesn't own territory and has no boss. You just misinterpreted it.

Ah, so Luciano and Lansky was just in someone elses turf and Rothstein was only trying to help them squash it? That makes more sense. I already knew that in real life Rothstein did not have a boss. I could have swore I heard him mention in the conversation after the meeting about how he pays up to that guy, maybe he was talking about his own dealings in that territory, idk.

Yeah the Italian guy that Jimmy knifed his underlings in New York. I think he is just another boss in New York with different territory than Rothstein.

It's in the episode "A Dangerous Maid". Taken from imdb:
In New York City, Lucky Luciano and Meyer Lansky pay Arnold Rothstein a visit. He's sitting with Joe Masseria, a.k.a. "Joe the Boss," who silently nods when introduced. Rothstein explains that Masseria is upset that his two nephews were killed outside of Lucky and Meyer's card game, which operates in territory that belongs to Masseria. Lucky and Meyer know nothing about it (though these must be the two men who tried to rob Jimmy and ended up on the wrong side of his knuckle-duster knife). Rothstein suggests Lucky and Meyer extend a token of goodwill to Masseria: $2,000 for the families of the deceased and a 10 percent tax from the card game. Lucky bristles, but Rothstein stops him. Masseria agrees that "10 percent is OK, for now." Lucky doesn't seem happy, but Rothstein and Masseria shake hands. On his way out, Masseria tells Lucky in Italian that he should come work for him and be rich. Lucky says Masseria's other hand will be in his pocket. Masseria says he'll be watching him. After another brief but tense exchange, Masseria leaves. Lucky and Meyer complain to Rothstein about the 10 percent deal, saying they already pay half the take to him. "And now you boys know why," he says.

Joe Masseria is the name of the guy. & Yeah, he sent 2 underlings to get a cut of winnings, they decided to try to rob Jimmy while they're at it - which we know how that went.

The first thing I thought is they're laying the groundwork for her exit. It might be this season or a couple down the road.

I disagree...I like that they opened up her past and showed that she's never been remotely as "pure" as she puts on. I don't know if she'll be able to make any sort of play in this male-driven world/show but I hope she goes out with a bang instead of just taking her savings and slinking into the night. (She also happens to have a new lover that can help with said "bang"...) Nucky eyeing that new girl at the Ritz before he got shot suggests she makes her move sooner than later.

As for Agent Van Alden, do you all think he's being honest in turning over his file on Nucky or just trying to get on the assistant DA's good side?

I think Van Alden was reacting to Nucky's offer of "help."

It is an awesome show. Just so well written, I can't get enough of it even when things are moving slow and are almost boring. Its weird, I think I should be bored but it sucks you in like a good book.

God Margaret is annoying me as well. It seems like almost everyone women character on tv recently has to turn into a skank and start sleeping around and stir up trouble. Maybe this has always happened a lot and it just happens to be happening on all my shows at about the same time.

I'm waiting for Jimmy Darmody to off his mom because she tries to f*** him. She makes me so uncomfortable in some scenes.

spoiler tags incase you didn't see this weeks episode...
I guess she got that out of the way few years back.

Godam this show is SO fucking good.

This inverse Oedipus thing with his Mom, Nucky being a badass importing straight from Ireland and screwing the Coast Guard setup, the collapse of the Capone/Luciano group, the trial and it's f-ups, Nucky's wife going nuts, Nucky's brother and his deal with the trial, Van Alden getting screwed.. so many interesting plot threads.
