Board games every good host has...

Sometimes I go over to a friends place for a relaxed night of playing a board game - often a nice way to spend a sunday night now that it's winter. I'd like to be more of a host and figure a stash of board games can't hurt.

List what you think are the obvious necessities.

My list:

Monopoly
Scrabble

If you have people that don't mind getting up and acting stupid Cranium is a lot of fun. If your people are boring farts that dont like to do anything then it ends up sucking.

Monopoly is great if you don't want your guests to come back.

Trivial Pursuit
Scrabble
Pictionary
Scattergories
Risk
Yahtzee

If you want some REAL games, head over to boardgamegeek.com. That being said, I always play the following with "regular" people

Blokus
Carcassonne: Hunters and Gatherers
Apples to Apples
Cranium
Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride: Europe

Balderdash is good for 6-8 people.
Get a set of dominoes (double 12's) there are countless variations of games to play with dominoes, and they're cheap.
Although technically a card game, Cribbage is pretty fun.

Thanks guys, I'll compile a list and get whatever 5 target has on sale 😉

P.S. Monopoly is kinda boring, isn't it?

so is trivial pursuit but we play it all the time

Another vote for Cranium from me...
Also, Chickenfoot - a variation of dominoes is pretty easy to learn for a group of people who have never played before... Someone above posted that dominoes are cheap... actually, they're more expensive than most of the board games listed (inexpensive, nonetheless, depending on your budget.)
