BO administration would grant amnesty to illegal immigrants?

http://www.sacbee.com/2011/11/17/4063094/fair-administrations-amnesty-for.html

Pandering the the Hispanic votes, Mr. President?

So D and R parties are pandering to the illegals and the taxpayers are getting screw, again.

Why even bother to have immigration law at all? Why bother to follow the law and wait and wait for years while you can jump the border and get amnesty/get in front of the line.

Why would he have to pander to Hispanics? I think hell would freeze over before they would pull a lever for an "R".

Every President since Reagan has come to the same conclusion. Some form of Amnesty. You can't run around and roundup or starve 12 million people. Especially when most of them abide by the laws here.

Pandering to a racial group doesn't matter with the electoral college and general voter turn out rates.

Didn't Obama already decide not to deport "non-criminal" illegals earlier this year? We have de facto open immigration in this country for poor Central Americans.

Essentially correct, but the press release cited in the OP goes further than that - claiming that there is a back door attempt to grant immunity on a large scale, which in turn would imply that a future administration who wanted to reverse the policy you describe above would have no recourse since these people would already have been given citizenship or something short of that such as a work permit. I'm not so sure that the claims in the OP's link are credible or well substantiated.

Amnesty with out securing the boarder will just make the problem much worse. Reagan made a huge mistake with amnesty it just encouraged more to cross the boarder. Secure the boarder first then discuss things like amnesty and immigration reform.

Every president since Reagan has also been a fan of outsourcing the US economy and starting stupid wars abroad too. That's hardly a good endorsement. The reality is that you just have to penalize people who give illegals jobs and deny public services to the illegals to get them to leave. Without money or services they won't want to stay here.

Conservatives don't want to do it because they want ultra-cheap labor (see Georgia farmers who complained recently that Americans want to much money to do work when he was denied his illegals) and bleeding hearts feel sorry for these people (but turn a blind eye to the millions of honest people waiting for green cards around the world).

"Give me your tired, your hot, your hungry masses yearning to breathe free."

A quote from 1 hundred years ago, yet it stands the test of time. Mr. Obama is the most patriotic American there is, since he is fullfilling America's promise to the world. He shows how great of a nation this is since we welcome the poor and mistreated into this country, and give them freedom that they never had back home.

If Obama booted out all of our immigrants like racists want...Then THAT is when this country has failed. Luckily he has not done so.

Central American migration is not about freedom. It's about people wanting higher wages. More importantly if one followed your reasoning we couldn't have any restrictions on immigration whatsoever and most rational people realize the US can't take the world's entire population.

I think you have a good point, that we want to secure the border before granting amnesty. That is my position as well. Trouble is I don't think the anti-immigration crowd will agree to amnesty after they get the part of immigration reform that they want.

I think there should be a comprehensive bill that addresses both - sets benchmarks for border security, and amnesty kicks in once certain benchmarks are achieved.

Anti-ILLEGAL-immigration crowd, very important distinction. I support a legal immigration policy that is both diverse and sustainable. Our current policy is not.

And I disagree that the vast majority of the "anti-illegal-immigration" crowd would make a turn against amnesty once the border is secured, but that is a matter of opinion and conjecture of course.

Fair enough on the semantics. But not a chance that any significant number of people opposing amnesty now will support it after the border is locked down. If you believe that, I've got a bridge to sell you. The rationale for opposing anmesty now will not change once the border is secure. Anyone taking that deal on the promise of future concessions is making a fools bargain.

I love it when people use arguments like these. It lets me know that using logic instead of emotion makes me a better person.

Now if I could just get more Americans on board with using our brains........
