BMW X5 ///M

Yeah the 4.8 carries 350hp - the specs on the M should be somewhere in the 550-600hp range... twin turbo V8... which is already above the Turbo S. These things were neck and neck (before the ///M came into existence) in the Fifth Gear review (despite the snide remarks 😉).

Hopefully this one will have some torque. At least it doesn't have that high pitched bumble bee sound either.

SRT8
6.1L 420hp, 420lb/ft torque
0-60: "under 5 secs"

Cayenne Turbo S
4.8L 550hp, 553lb/ft torque
0-60: 4.7s

While the 0-60s are comparable, I'm pretty sure BMW is going after Porsche on this one. Jeep wins in price undoubtedly... but you're also getting a Jeep... not to mention - try throwing that thing around a track and see how it does.

How do the two compare off road though?

Sounds more important with a SUV than how fast they go around a track.

Depends what your looking for, my bet is the unibody car based SUV's suck off road.

The Cayenne is really good offroad, except for the on-road tires it has. While it doesn't match any number of more serious "deep stuff" type vehicles which absolutely suck on the road, it's surprisingly capable.

The SRT is beter on the track than a Cayenne.

Depends if that was the Cayenne Turbo (mentioned in the article) or the Turbo S... as the Turbo had 450hp in '06... which is comparable to the SRT8's top offering, but not Porsche's. Not bad for the Jeep though.

Also a strong competitor is the ML63... that thing is also pretty damned good looking - surprising for Mercedes IMO. Sorry I have a thing for sporty SUV-types.

As for off-roading... I've driven off-road and the permanent rattles produced after enough time... very undesirable. Going offroad is not a huge factor for people spending nearly $100k on these guys.

Wow the ///M comment took this long, surprised. Any SUVs that you think are good looking?

The X5 is much better looking than X3 or X6. I find this odd, but oh well, whatever floats the buyer's boat. One could get a Vette *and* a SRT8 Cherokee for that kind of scratch (likely $90k?)

turbo in a M car :thumbsdown

i also don't think they should sell ///M w/ DCT even if it is technically superior.

Now thats funny, you think ///M or BMW care about that type of thought?

In case you have not figured it out, BMW is a business, out there to make money, not some a couple guys in their garage building there own race car.

remarks that are opinions about looks... SUVs in general being ugly... honestly the Cayenne GTS and X5 are the 2 best looking out there... people are just being the typical haters. 90% of all vehicle designs out there are touching ugly... IMO. As long as we're on the subject, I don't think your bike is all that good looking either... the front end just doesn't belong.
