Good luck finding one for $30K.

That's a car I would take over the L any day.

hey dude, go to www.svtperformance.com and ford is offering their 2500 rebates on all 03 cobras in stock. some dealers are offering around 30k before taxes (brandon ford, beau townsend ford, etc). that board has all the info you need.

its so hard resisting that deal but i think i should wait towards the end of winter now (and for around 35-38k u can get a really nice used 02-03 z06 with low miles on it).

Aren't the Lightings approx $33-35k also? I'd take a Cobra over that any day. Mmm, Cobra...ahhhhhh.

Whatta maroon!

Dude it's not a race car. It's a passenger car. If it were a race car, it'd have 5- or 6-point harness, welded doors, a fire hazard system, etc.

You're right, it's passenger car. BMW M3 = Kia Rio.

i think the proper term for a m3 is either a sports sedan or a sports coupe. race cars are those with lots of logos on them and race on tracks ONLY.

I'd never get a performance truck over a performance coupe/sedan/roadster. They simply lack class.

1/4 aside, the M3 will obliterate and leave dead in its wake, the L. Of course, as mentioned, the L is much cheaper, and they are a separate class of vehicle. Skidpad numbers aside (and the M3 is superior there than the L), it's going to be more capable on the slalom because the car can more surely shift its weight around quickly. It's been designed from early on as a performance car and is on a good chassis for it. Now, sure you can upgrade the suspension on the L and give it killer tires, but its still going to be at a disadvantage vs. doing the same to the M3.

The Lightning DOES NOT handle well without significant suspension\sway bar mods. Some people even stack bags of sand in the bed to weight it down...

It's a big, heavy truck frame. All the mods they do can't change that, that's why an m3 is faster. But a lightning is fun.

Kinda scary sometimes though, it really feels like it will roll easily... I can corner much more sharply in my daily driver.

#s 1 and 4 are not felonies, they are misdemeanors. #2 does not apply; because there was no intent to kill the passenger, how could it possibly be 1st degree murder? It would be involuntary or vehicular manslaughter.

I used to work with a guy who hit and killed a bystander during a street race. In California. He was paroled from prison after approximately three years for vehicular manslaughter, and was only in prison that long because he had fled the scene following the incident.

Just what i was going to say, Manslaughter at most.
Wrong. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=1631396

All-Star Dany Heatley was charged Monday with vehicular homicide after the death of Atlanta Thrashers teammate Dan Snyder, who was fatally injured when Heatley's sports car ran off a road.
Vehicular Homicide is FAR less serious than murder.

Nobody still has any evidence this actually happened either.

Anyway... idiots removing themselves from the gene pool.

Stats per caranddriver.com

Sorry Viper, Stock M3 > Stock Lightning

FINALLY some real numbers...you gotta love all the people who talk about cars and know nothing about them...i've driven both, and the M3 takes it hands down. True, the L is a beast, and maybe when a professional racecar driver isn't behind the wheel, the L could pull on an M3 in a straight line. but around a LeMans-like track, or a circuit like Nurburgring, the L would eventually just be a spec in the rearview of the M3. The L is without a doubt the fastest truck i've ever driven, but it just doesn't handle good enough to stay w/ an M3 through turns, even wide ones. my mom's M class feels more stable through turns than that truck.

PS - dying instantly and unexpectedly while racing is the way to go, but not slowly and in flames...

2. Would actually be vehicular homicide, which is 4-15 IIRC.

If you've never gotten into street racing.... it's an experience. Oh, and it's fun to lose the cops (I've done it twice in the last few years.... heh.) I do worry about getting in big trouble though.

Uh.... You've gotta be fscking kidding me.

I call BS.

You don't "lose the cops" nowdays. I also doubt you have a supercharged automobile. You probably don't know a connecting rod from your elbow.

Everybody enjoys some friendly street competition every once in a while, but you're just plain full of sh!t. :)
My connecting rods in my rotary look like elbow macaroni.

The maroon is the guy who killed his friend because he was driving 100 miles an hour and crashed.

You don't lose the cops if you're actually involved in a police chase, no.
The most recent incident it was late at night, about 1 in the morning. I was heading north on hwy 121 through bedford\colleyville\euless\grapevine. 121 has concrete dividers seperating 3 lanes of traffic, each way, for the most part. ANyways, I'm cruising along heading out to the home office in Plano (vpn service was out) I was going about 85.

Now keep in mind, I drive this stretch of road every day, although usually I hit the 635E split to go into dallas, where my office is. And thus, I regularly get tickets on this stretch of highway, usually 2 or 3 a year.

Anyways, I'm cruisin along, left lane, when all of a sudden my radar detector goes off and says "Laser!" Now those of you who use radar detectors know that while the kband and other radio waves go off all the time, but nothing but cops set off the laser mode. So then I see about half a mile ahead, sitting on the left shoulder is a car, and I'm thinking, fvck me.

Now I'm not some crazy run from the law type rebel, but it so happens that I've gotten a ticket THE SAME way in the same area about 4 months ago. But in a different vehicle. And I stopped RIGHT away, and even then it took him like 3 minutes to start his car and get out on the road and over onto the other shoulder. And he still gave me a ticket, and it still kinda pissed me off.

So I'm still going like 85 when I get up to the car, and I see his tail lights come on as he starts the car and turns on his bar. At that point I buried the boost meter. There weren't many cars on the road, and I was doing about 130mph. I know the area very well, and I just hit the next exit (Hall Johnson) took a left, followed Hall Johnson to hwy 26, took 26 back to 114, 114 to 121 North, and back on my way.

Damn, that took FOREVER to type out. Anyways, so it's not like I evaded the helicopter and 10 squad cars. I just never let him get close to me.
