SMG.

Just about everyone in racing uses them except friggin' NASCAR.

Yeah, cause they do sooo much precision shifting in NASCAR

Met a cool old sports car enthusiast looking for cars today. Like me, he's shifted his last gear. Manual is for fantasists who live inside commercials. I want my nonfat soy late with a touch of chocolate in my hand, not an ersatz cock.

I'd rather have the ersatz cock (I had to look that up at m-w.com).
Why do you hate manuals so much? Fantasists? I enjoy shifting my gears, whether it's at 3000 or 5000 rpm.. it's not about performance. It's about the cock.

I told you why. You have to put your coffee down to shift. That's no way to live.

No you don't.. I shift with drinks and food all the time. I use my lower two fingers to shift and the upper two and thumb to hold the object.

CART, IRL, and WRC still use traditional stick transmissions.

Aside from Le-Mans prototypes and F1, who else uses SMG?

WRC uses sequential transmissions as well, it's just that they don't use paddles. Push it one way to upshilft, push it the other to downshift. You can see this in the cockpit videos.

Fair enough. Didn't realize those were sequential.

Actually according to this, they now use both paddles and a standard "H" gate on the floor to allow the driver to skip gears faster. But the transmission is (obviously, with the paddles) still a sequential.

SMG can eat me. You can take my REAL standard when you pry the shifter from my cold, dead hands 🙂

incorrect.

uh, yeah... that's why most drag cars use automatic right? 😛
automatic is almost necessary when you have gobs and gobs of power.
when you're talking about a Cavalier or Sunfire... then maybe you're right.

correct me if im wrong, but most automatics just arent made to handle as much power as their manual counterpart in most cars. meaning, most people in civics or jetta automatics wont be pushing 350+hp in their car, so why would they (honda, vw, etc) build up the automatic that much?

this guy i know has a turbo is300 and i think he's getting his auto tranny fully built... i asked him why he was keeping it manual, and he said that even tho he'll lose a few hp, it'll hold boost better and keep his runs consistant.

the SMG can be driven in many many different ways

with the paddles
in a psudo-auto mode
or the traditional manual w/o clutch

smg is wayyyyyyyyy better

SMG is t!ts...definitely would get one of those! Driving a manual is awesome unless your commute is <hour and involves no traffic congestion.

traditional is a lot more fun til you get stuck in traffic and are shifting back and forth. then you loathe it. that said, i'd still probably go with traditional. lol.

Who here has actually driven a M3 SMG, M3 non-SMG, M5, X5 4.6is w/ aggressive Steptronics profile that can comment on the issue rather than talking based on assumptions, magazine articles, and hearsay?

Oh wait, that would be me.
