BMW i8 and i3 revealed

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/07/29/bmw-i3-and-i8-revealed/

The specs on the i8 are pretty impressive, but I have to say the i3 intrigues me the most. Powertrain similar to Volt, a bit more practical, and RWD. People already say the low center of gravity in the Volt helps, but the car is so heavy. Maybe with BMW using Aluminum and Carbon Fiber, the weight issue will be less of a problem, the center of gravity will still be low, and the proper wheels are driving the vehicle. Could be fun for a commuter/city car. Of course it will be ridiculously expensive I'm sure...so not nearly as practical as a Prius.

No way they'll make it on the market looking like that. Reminds me of the Smart cars that released in Europe only with more shiny high class materials instead of the same plastics in fisher price cars.

holy crap BMW actually managed to make a car uglier then the aztek
actually, BMW accomplished that a few years ago...

...well, i don't know if its uglier than that Aztek, but its certainly as ugly...

lol obv. concept cars. I'm sure they will be just as rediculous and over priced as they currently are now. But if one had the money, then I am sure they wouldn't be let down.

Apple called, they want their retarded one-vowel prefix back. Come to think of it, how much better would iDrive have been if it had actually been designed by Apple?

You like "efficient dynamics" better?

And obviously you haven't seen the new version idrives. Man you can fly through those menus almost like you had a keyboard and mouse. The NAV is also hard-drive based and lightning quick. Was in a 5er yesterday with it. Beautiful, fast, and nice large hi-res screen too. So jealous, my version the NAV is still dvd-based.

I clicked on this thread and was looking forward to seeing how long the hood is on bimmer with an i8 in it.

Yeah it's vastly improved. Still, I think iDrive to begin with would have been pretty sweet if Apple had done the interface. I'm not much for OSX, but the interfaces for the iPod, iPad, and iPhone have been pretty slick (iOS?).

It would seem that Android, iOS, WebOS or WinMo7 would make a great in-car OS. Probably would require very little tweaking as they all have contact, navigation, voice recognition and media player capabilities.

Definitely! I like them all in different ways, particularly Android and iOS 🙂

Of course, we might not want the kids trying to play angry birds on the nav screen while driving 😀 But if the thing had multiple screens and wimax/4g? Sweet.

Actually, I think Intel would have more of a problem with it.

Does anyone else think the i3 looks like a pug?
