BMW design chief Chris Bangle talks

unfortunately he didn't have much to say, kinda skirted the issue

edit: how about audi news? for instance, have you SEEN those new "shark fins" on all the new models? I think it kills the look of the cars

AW: We?ve seen spy shots of the facelifted 7 Series already, which is earlier than normal. How does that make you feel?

BANGLE: We facelift all our cars. It?s part of the model cycle and it was always planned that way.
Riiiiight. Just keep telling yourself that.

We?re not creating fashion icons and it?s not an issue whether or not we have become everybody?s darling
No, you've got it wrong. You're destroying cars that WERE fashion icons. And you sure as sh!t aren't creating "everybody's darling" :|

his designs are ugly.
I'll take the old 3, 5, 7 series anyday over any of the new models that replace them :|

well one cant really improve on the current 5 design. that car is sporty as well as professional. best looking car IMO

Here's some more info on Bangle:

Wisconsin-born Bangle, 46, joined BMW in 1992 as its first non-German design chief. He previously headed Fiat design and penned its 1993 Coupe and the 1994 Alfa Romeo 145. Before turning to design, Bangle trained as a Methodist minister, which may account for his evangelical presentations.

The guy who designed the Z8 and former President of BMW DesignWorks USA, Henrik Fisker, now works for Aston Martin.

The guy who is responsible for the Z9 concept, the concept that formed the basis of the current 6- and 7-series, is Adrian van Hooydonk.

Then why do his designs make the baby Jesus cry?

lol

If you don't like the designs, don't blame Bangle. Blame the people approving his work. He is extremely capable of designing a sanitized sporty car that will appeal to most people - see the current M3, for example.

Personally, I like BMWs new design theme. The only new model, I think needs to be repenned is the X3.
