BMW 325i or Audi A4 Quattro?

Imported

Lifer
Mom's finally ready to buy a new car, after looking at the Altima, Accord, Camry, G35, IS300, C230 Coupe.. Mom narrowed it down to the Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (Possibly the 3.0, depends on price) or the BMW 325i.

Anyone know the reliability of either of these vehicles and can anyone give me opinions?

Quattro FO LIFE. They're pretty much comparable in every way... price, reliability, performance, luxury, features, EXCEPT the Audi 1.8T has more tuning potential, the 3.0 has a continuously variable transmission, and you can get the quattro for a little less than you can get the 325xi. Just choose which one you feel more at home in.

Audi A4- get the 1.8T because it's more livelier and fun to drive. As turkey said, it also has massive tuning potential. Even if that might not be what your mother is into, you can put a $600 chip in there and it would look just the same. But it would have 210+ hp instead of the already powerful 180hp. If I were to ever get a new car, this is exactly what my choice would be. Cheaper than the Bimmer for the same amount of quality, a higher degree of exclusivity, and a more gorgeous design with one of the best interiors in the entire industry, at any cost. The ergnomics ROCK.

bmw 325i...
if i was in the market, i would go for the audi quattro but this car is for Imported's mom-- i doubt she will do or need aftermarket mods for her car.

I dig the looks of the audi more, plus a spirited 1.8T even not chipped will be amazingly fun to drive. The BMW screams "status car". Granted the Audi isn't cheap, it's just the stigma behind driving a BMW or a Mercedes, IMO. Both are fine cars, it's just when people have the money that's what lots go for, overlooking fine cars like audis, acuras, lexus and infinitis.

A4 !!!

BMW is played out...everyone has one...and the styling is a little old.

Audi just redesigned their A4's...they're hella-sexy!

Fit and finish is great, and they're more affordable than Bimmers...

a4 for sure, i haven;t test drove teh audi, but I have test drove the bmw and it my opinion it's a POS, then again I was comparing to the Acura 3.2CL Type-S. <= that's what I would pick

go for the BMW, the price is not much different and it's just the whole status of the car.

BMW's definitely have more of a name than Audi, and i don't think your mom would really care about the acceleration and handling (unless your mom's into racing, but i haven't met any of those)

Tough call....

Personally I don't see any difference with regards to the "status" of either as both are seen as high end expensive vehicles...sure BMW has more of a history of this, but I would say status wise they are about on par..Sure Audi got a bad rap in the 80's for repair and overall reliability problems, but I know many now who pass up buying BMW's for Audi's.

I like both the 3.0 A4 because of the looks, and the BMW because of the styling and the handeling characteristics.

I would say between those two, flip a coin.....unless you can get a really good deal on one or the other.

I am not the biggest fan of the looks of the A4 1.8 as it is too round and bubbly for me, whereas the BMW and the 3.0 A4 have more aggressive looks IMHO.

I personally would love to have a 3 series BMW but that is me....

Good luck, it is a nice choice to make.

She's in california. She has no snow and won't be racing it so quattro is a waste of money. Get her a bmw.

Man, what's with you guys talking about modding the fricking car? It's for his mom. HIS MOM.

Well, if she lives in California then get the BMW, quattro would be a waste of gas/money. If she is doing alot of mountain/snow driving anyway get the quattro - but BMW has the most owesome engines in the industry besides its noncharged - that is always nicer because of the instantaneous way it responds to the slightest gas pedal movement....

You should check out the latest issues of Road & Track. For the price of a loaded BMW 325i or Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, you could get a 260hp Infiniti G35. R&T thought, that while the Audi is the best looking of the bunch, its ride is too cushy/soft. The BMW dominates the competition in terms of performance and the Infiniti in terms of value.
