I currently have a 2000 A4 quattro and the GF has a BMW 325i that I got for her. I prefer the BMW (but I love both cars). Keep in mind that both cars are fairly loaded, with 5 speed transmissions and the sports packages. We are both "driving enthusiasts".

My A4 1.8T is chip-tuned and is putting out about as much power (and more torque) as the older 2.8 litre V6.

What I like about her car is that the suspension is MUCH more serious than the one on my A4.

I have not had a chance to drive the new series A4, so it's possible that it's a better vehicle. Also, in this country Audi is a much better deal than BMW (in most parts of the world Audi costs more than BMW but in the states BMW is more expensive, go figure).

Honestly, you are wrong about the best performance for the buck. An F-body is the best performance per dollar. I hate GM, and i still give them that. No one can touch 300+ HP for $20k.

Best lux. car is not an A4 or a 325i, unless you are not that rich. A bentley is the ultimate car for luxury.

F body cars are fast but they handle like crap and the interiors of the cars are built like every other cheezy low end vehicle that GM has produced for the last 20 years. Seats, etc, are total crap. The low reclined seating position might give you that "fighter pilot" feel, but it's difficult to see the corners of your vehicle.

I think that 99% of people who have owned even a moderately priced Audi or BMW built in the last 5 years would agree that it's one of the most luxurious vehicles you can own for under $50,000. You don't have to buy some total snob-o vehicle to get luxury.

about these mod chips... is it expensive??

I think I paid less than $700 for mine.

hard to install?

Piece of cake.

hard to get??

Get 'em here.

is there a mod chip for a bimmer??

I'm sure there is, but their benefit would be minimal at best. Chipping works wonders for turbocharged cars because it allows for an increase in turbo boost pressure. As far as I know, BMW only sells normally aspirated cars, no turbo's.....

how many HP bumps does a mod chip can get??

The APR stage 1 chip for the S4 bumps horsepower from 250 stock to 307.

what is the disadvantage of using a modchip?

Extra wear and tear. I had to replace a throttle body hose because of the extra boost pressure (small tear in the hose), it was a simple repair I did myself in about an hour.

thanks for the answers corn

I think I will pass these mod chips, coz I'm not a total car enthusiast.... and don't have enough time and moola to fix things when they're broken!....

plus, if you're looking at an A4 3.0, there's no real mod chip available anyway since it's not a turbo....

edit: oh yeah, and the newer '02 models have a so-called "chastity belt" around the car's computer that you literally have to break in order to get at the chip.....

Get the Audi, preferably an '02 S4.

The 3-Series is overrated and overpriced for what you get.
