BMI is the worst measure of fitness
It's not a measure of fitness, it's a measure of fatness.

It's a joke. They talked about it on the radio today. But BMI standards most NFL players are overweight. I'm not talking about lineman (who are often overweight) I'm talking about guys with very low body fat percentages. They carry a lot of muscle so they weigh more than they should. Um, right... A simple check to see if you're overweight is the mirror. 😀

Mine is 28

I'm 5'10", 193 lbs.

It's funny because it says that I'm overweight, yet people tell me that I'm skinny.

No, it is a measure of weight vs height. If it measured "fatness", it would make you input your BF%. Or at least ask for your waist size, which while I know that is not a reliable indicator of your BF%, it couldnt make the BMI any more inaccurate.

Honestly, if they wanted people to understand whether they are fat or not, give a frigging mirror. Add pictures for reference if needed, but really if you need a picture you are either anorexic or too stupid to be allowed to breed.

EDIT: 28.

Even with a mirror, most plump guys tend to describe themselves as muscular or "a tiny bit of fat but mostly muscle".

And 5'3" 225lbs girls may describe themselves as "curvy", but they and everyone else around them knows that they are, in fact, fat. It is just not polite to say so.

But the fat girl (and most of the thin ones too) probably admit they are (or think they are) fat, at least to themselves. While the sausage-fed, muscular guys truly think they are muscular or built.

Which is why BF% is better than BMI. With BMI there is a perfectly true loophole: if you have a decent amount of muscle, BMI is going to label you as fatter than you are. Whereas with BF%, you can find out how fat you are and how much lean mass you have.

Yes, I agree 100% with bf being a superior measurement. However, there the problem is ACCURATE testing. In either case, I just think people need to be more honest with themselves and if they are carrying too much fat for health just admit it and either work to lessen it or be happy as they are (knowing they are carring extra fat and that it may have adverse health effects)

BMI isn't a measure of fatness, it's not a measure of fitness, it's does't factor in muscle mass or fat percentage. It's simply a measure of mass against size. From a medical perspective even if you mass comes from muscle you are more at risk with a higher BMI even if it's all from muscle because your bodily systems must distribute more fuel at a higher rate to the larger mass. Yes how effecient that tissues is (muscle vs. fat) plays a role but from a stricticly statistical perspective two people with equal body fat indexs and different BMI's the person with the higher BMI will be at greater risk for cardiovascular problems.

BMI is BS, since it doesn't account for body fat versus lean muscle, but regardless, I have a BMI of 18. 5'10", 128 pounds.

6 foot 2 inches
280 LB
36 BMI

I am overweight, however, I have a very large frame and a decent amount of muscle mass.
When I was in good shape (weight training 3 mornings per week and swimming 5000+ yards 6 days per week ... did that from 1995-1997) ... I weighed in at about 230 to 240

I need to sign up at a gym or something .... cause there's no way in hell I'm going on a diet. (I like food)

EDIT: That create a meal thing sucks. Since when is a 10oz steak a "large" steak.
I'm sorry, but No steak under 20oz should be considered anywhere near "large"

That being said ... according to that create a meal thing, I eat about 3500 calories per meal (though I generally eat only 1 big meal per day)
