i recently bought a cardexpert geforce 2 mx at pomona's computer show and installed it... bought to my surprise everything is blurry i spent an hour or more tying to update drivers but nothing would fix the blurriness... i was reading a site and they said the cause of this was they limited the ramdac to 175 instead of 350 i emailed cardexpert but still have had yet a reply. what can be the cause of this? and has this happen before?

If it is very blurry, it could also be faulty hardware. Geforce2 cards are infamous to have a comparably bad 2d quality, but it shouldn't be really bad. Of course it's hard to tell how blurry what you see is.

Are you sure that you didn't read that RAMDAC's speed wrong ? AFAIK GeForce2MX has usually 175Mhz RAM speed, all of them should be with 350Mhz RAMDAC. BWT, faster RAMDAC doesn't automatically mean better picture quality. If you compare Matrox G400 RAMDAC (300Mhz) with the one found inside GeForce/GeForce2 (350Mhz), you probably find that Matrox cards has much better picture on high resolutions...

I would contact the vendor and try to return it as defective or bite the bullet and get another card from a different manufacturer.

Certain GF2 MX board manufacturers have this issue. Only with future revisions of their PCB designs and with better components can this be alleviated. I've tried MX boards from LeadTek, Hercules, and eVGA and from those, I preferred the Hercules, eVGA, and LeadTek in that order (though I only have the eVGA board now).

If Buena Park is close to you, you might try there for card deals b/c the computer show is there today and Sunday.

alright so with the help of powerstrip i was able to get it clear but at 60Hz refresh rate at 1124 X 864... my monitor supports 75Hz at 1124 on my voodoo. is this a defect? or does the card just plain suck??

i also have heard that this card does not work well with via kt 133 chipsets?????? true ???

My own Sparkle Geforce2 MX works fine with my MSI K7T Pro board(KT133)infact rock solid even with my MX overclocked & using AGP 4X.

Definely get the INF file for your monitor rather than using Windows plug&play or default monitor setting as they never seem to be as good as the proper monitor settings

If you aren't sure- return it and get a replacement! It's not supposed to be blurry. Even a 60hz refresh rate should get past that. Otherwise, I'd drop to 1024x768 and hike up the rate and see if it looks good then. If not, return it or try it with another monitor if you have one or can borrow one. Then you will know for sure.
