while the jump from 30GB to 50GB is pretty substantial, not many people are gonna have much of a use for 50GB discs. Sure movie studios could put all kinds of cool stuff on these 50GB discs, but 30GB should be fine for high-def content plus the usual extras. Add to it the fact that HD-DVD's will be very cheap to make and will require manufacturers to only make slight changes, I think we are seeing a clear winner already.

In this case, there is more to consider then just the technical aspects.

I am no fan of blu-ray and I would agree with you except that there are alot of other big backers of this tech, like panasonic, who are putting there full weight behind it. We will just have to wait and see what happens...

As it stands now, I can't even image what the money lost per PS3 will be if Sony continues with the blu-ray design, or the price they will have to charge to come even close to breaking even.

For me it's all about bang for the buck and what's pragmatic.

HD-DVD

1. Burns 20 gigs on a single layer
2. Easy to produce so the media will cost less
3. 30 gig dual layer should be enough for HD Video

BluRay

1. Burns 27 gig on a single layer
2. More costly production means media will cost more
3. 54 gig on a dual layer if and when they get it out of the lab
4. Thinner protective layer could cause problems.

I'm leaning more towards HD-DVD now because I have a feeling Dual Layer isn't going to be a reality with home burners since it's more complex and cost a lot more. Hell dual layer still isn't much of a factor with todays DVD burners.
