Compaq 6730B, How To Turn On Bluetooth?

I see a bluetooth device listed in Device Manager. It's supposed to have bluetooth. But I can't see where/how to turn it on.
Anyone know?
TIA

BIOS? some weird/stupid Fn key combination? You can also look at the compaq site for some kind of admin/manager interface for that device. i have a Lenovo and I can do it in all three places.

Did you poke around in Control Panel? There's a Bluetooth section in there. I've never used a Bluetooth device, so I don't have personal experience.

Nothing in the Control Panel. This is a newer laptop. Maybe IT didn't set up Bluetooth?

I have an HP/compaq 6730b. The bluetooth can be controlled by their wireless assistant independently of the wireless lan. If you us the Fn key and the wireless lan key it will turn them both off. If you turn it back on, depending on its previous state or settings in the wireless manager, the bluetooth may not come back on.

I ran into an issue once on a test install where i had the bluetooth disabled on my regular use install and it would not be seen at all on my test install.

But if it is showing up in device manager, then it isn't disabled. If you installed the bluetooth drivers/software from hp, you should be able to enable or disable it through that too. In my test install issue, it wouldn't even show up in the device manager until i swapped drives back and enabled it in the wireless manager program.

Edit: check the startup section in the start menu. if they installed the bluetooth software it's startup program will be there.

If its a work laptop then usually Bluetooth and IR seem to be disabled by policy.

Not sure if that is the case.

In Win7 you should see bluetooth radios or adapters in the device mangler.

Are you trying to pair to a headset for telephony?

Is there a B icon in your control panel? Once paired it should show up as an audio device for use in apps like skype, etc.

I was trying to pair my phone to see if I could upload a photo of an incident we had yesterday.
I could mail it to myself but this laptop is supposed to have BT.

I emailed my IT tech directly. I'll probably hear about it but it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission...

I'd say install the bluetooth software if you have local admin rights to the laptop.

If your it people want bluetooth off, they really should disable it in the bios. Plus it should halep save a little extra battery life. I wanted to have it as an option when i bought my laptop, but i keep it turned off most of the time.

If you know what the bluetooth chip is, you should install the reference driver for it.

Your IT folk create recovery images so if you screw up the pc they can restore it back to exactly the way it was when they gave it to you. If they didn't configure something before creating the image it would not be set up when your pc was deployed.

By now you could have emailed 100 naked pictures from your phone. :p
