Are you sure it is a 1996?
1994 and 95 Mustangs had the ODBII connector but were not fully compliant.

It could also be that the reader you have doesn't properly read the variation of J1850 bus Ford uses.


Uh Ford was like Dodge with some of their stuff they sometimes used left over componets from a year or two back so he may be right... But also it may be the cheap reader as also stated... But if you have anyone you know with a good scanner it might tell you just what you do have (compliant or not)...?

I mean I got it scanned at Advance, and they scanned it fine, just for some reason the reader isn't reading mine.

I wasn't trying to be rude. Just pointing out that the 94 and 95 used a similar body style and had the OBDII connector but were not compliant.
Did the scanner come with a manual? It might give some clues as to why it isn't reading.
