my friend uses sprint and pays $15 to get internet on his phone.

he bought a usb cable, hooks it up to his phone, and is able to get 128kbps up/dl

thats not a bad deal when you think about it. unless you are geeky and require more speed.

EVDO is free for me.

Bell corporate plan. Unlimited data usage ;)

$35/mo

EDIT: Clarification..$35/mo is my TOTAL bill...plus 6% GST.

In other words, people are comparing this "alternative," that might get your plan canceled for all we know, with an unlimited data plan from a competitor?

Yes it does. Sprint has really cheap unlimited data plans, unfortunately nobody I know is on Sprint or I would switch.

Tmobile GPRS speed is pathetc compared to the cdma side of things (atleast at this point, once they have the HSDPA in place it should be same if not better). its fine for normal surfing but after a while it feels really slow. With the sprint sero plan its included in the 30/month and they dont care if you teether. I pair my sprint phone and my pda to log in to my asterisk box using a SIP client and use it as a phone if i want to talk long and not use air time minutes.

yeah, once they start implementing the revisions of EV-DO and HSDPA, we will be seeing speeds of 3Mb/s+ :D

that is only for pda phone, unlimited data plans on regular phones (not smartphones) is 15.

Yeah, but your EVDO service also has a cap. And a ridiculous ToS that basically prohibits just about everything.

I have a $10 a month data plan that does this, and offers 150kbps speed (1xRTT CDMA). It works well and is great for the road.
