If you have a T-Mobile GSM phone with bluetooth and a laptop, you can surf the internet anywhere and whenever.

First thing you'll need is the T-Mobile Web plan for $5.99 per month. This gives you unlimited data to receive your email and the latest news, sports, weather, etc. It doesn't give you internet access right away. You'll need to configure some settings on the laptop.

Once you have the T-Mobile Web service, you're now ready to use your phone as a GPRS modem. Leave username, password, and domain blank. Have your laptop dial *99# on your phone via bluetooth. Once you're authenticated and connected, go into your Internet Explorer settings and configure your dial-up setting. Under proxy server, put in [deleted] as the IP address and use port 8080. Click OK and you're now ready to surf the internet. :D

you missed one step. your laptop needs to have built-in bluetooth or a bluetooth usb adapter.

bluetooth speed... that puts your speed back to 1996.

but it's cheap and it's already widely known in the hotdeals/FW crowd.

GPRS is about the speed of dial-up. (40-50kbps)

EDGE (upgraded GPRS) is around 150kbps.

ewww...even in the middle of no where my Moto Q on EV-DO (CDMA) gets 200-500kbps

*waits silently until no one is looking and applies the DUN hack for future use;) *

For $5.99 unlimited data, I don't think you can ask for more. The official internet plan is from $20 and up, and that's for 10MB/month!

How do you like the Q? After dumping my MPXs, I am not a fan of Moto. They make great phones, but they only go so far. No WiFi or touch screen with the Q. Those 2 features would have made me switch to verizon and buy the phone the first day.

Who needs WiFi when you have EV-DO? If you travel to different countries, that's a whole different story.
