Bluetooth peripherals generally suck

Is it just me, or are Bluetooth keyboards & mice borderline useless? Every device I have tried seemingly adds a second or two of lag to everything I do, which makes it really annoying to type or even just mouse around over bluetooth.

It also seems like a common trend in wireless bluetooth peripherals to automatically go to sleep if you go more than 15 seconds without touching them- perhaps a slight exaggeration, but just the normal pauses I will take once in awhile seems to be enough to make the devices go to sleep and then not register the first few keys hit upon being woken back up.

Is it a problem with bluetooth itself, the technology, or is it just that every peripheral out has terrible quality standard? Is there ever going to be a new version of bluetooth that fixes the annoying lag and sleep issues?

Note: I went with this forum because I mostly have only tried to use bluetooth devices with my phone or tablets.

It is not just you. Bluetooth kinda sucks sometimes. It's the price we pay to have the convenience of using a device without any wires or dongles.

I've only ever had three bluetooth gadgets, some headphones, a keyboard, and a smartwatch. All worked without issue for me.

Bluetooth is known for delays, but getting different hardware wont do much, it may be somewhat better but not much.
Personally me, I don't use wireless hardware on desktops. Desktop is stationary and so it will always have some cables around, I'd rather have 2 more cables but KB/Mouse that actually work. Not to mention wireless mice are very heavy.

My experience (not surprisingly) has been that cheap no-name type BT stuff often sucks hard. (Exception: I bought some slim no-name BT stereo headphones when Frys was practically giving them away and they work flawlessly, connecting instantly to my N3 every time I turn them on.)

Well made, name brand BT hardware has never given me any trouble. My old Motorolla BT speaker in my car- flawless. My current built in BT with my Ford's system- flawless. Logitech and Microsoft keyboards I use- also flawless. Cheap ones I've had: recycle bin.

Some cheaper BT dongles I used in the past with desktops were troublesome, but currently using IOgear with my sig system and HTPCs and as predicted- flawless.
