Bluetooth Pairing 5th gen. iPod Touch w/ iPhone 5?

I have a 5th gen. iPod Touch in my car on a ProClip mount. I'd like to use the iPod Touch as my regular GPS unit, but I need to find a way to pair / tether it to my iPhone 5 via bluetooth.

I can setup a wifi hotspot w/ my iPhone 5, but the iPod Touch doesn't automatically connect to that.

Anyone have a solution to this?

Why? If I can pair them via bluetooth, they'll automatically connect when I get in the car.

Isn't it because the hotspot created by the iPhone is ad-hoc?
