Blueray question

I'm about to send a blueray player to portugal and they use PAL system. So my question is if a blueray bought in US will be able to play european discs (not only BR discs but also plain DVD's)

Most BD movies except those released by 20th Century FOX and some older ones are region free, so there should be no issues playing Region 1 movies in Region 2. Since HD video signals are standardized world wide so the issues between PAL and NTSC don't exist. I have about 8 BD movies, two of which are region coded but they're older ones that came free with the player.

The only two issues are power (110v 60hz versus 220v 50hz) and plug type, as well as issues with region encoded discs. Studios could choose to enforce it at any time, unlike with HD-DVD that didn't have that issue.

The OP did want to play SD DVD's and presuming they are not all rips, they will have the DVD region coding to deal with.
