BlueGears' XMYSTIQUE7.1 soundcard

What is the general consensous on this soundcard? It still seems to be impossible to get a decent gaming/music sound card these days with a digital out (toslink or coaxial).

I suppose I'll get a Audigy 2zs for my next system since it has coaxial digital out (the xfi seems to have that mini plug/multi port output for digital crap).

Why do you want digital out? What are you hooking up to it?

My X-Mystique is working just fine, but if the X-Fi was out at the time when I was buying, I'd have a hard time not getting that instead.

logitech z-5500s are what I'm hooking it up to.

You could just hook up with analog to those and with a good soundcard the results should be good for any source material.

I'm in the market for a new sound card for a new PC I plan on building in the next month or so. This will be one that I'm going to hook up to my TV and my reciever and i want to be able to game with it. I'd like to hook it up with a toslink cable to my reciever. Any suggestions on a soundcard? 🙂

EDIT: I don't care about top of the line sound. Need something affordable but good.

Turtle Beach Montego DDL

HDA XMystique DDL

Teratec Aureon PCI DDL
http://sounden.terratec.net/modules.php...modload&name=News&file=article&sid=237

All have S/PDIF optical digital OUTs
Ths HDA XMystique seems more elaborate but the extra electronics are for analog audio.
Terratec products in the beginning catered to musicians not gamers but quality will be very good.
Turtle Beach has a long-standing good name and likely the easiest to find.

The above are the only S/PDIF optical digital OUT cards I could find with good quality at a decent price.
All others I looked at either had digital coax only or involve a break-out external box with optical OUT
at a much higher price.

You can look at Creative if you like. I didn't. I don't go near them.

Happy trailz,

Is getting true surround in games important to you?

If you want a DDL solution, McPudd went over some cards there, but if you could deal with 5/7 channel stereo or PrologicII or something, you could just get a basic digital out card and game that way.

Even though I am very happy with my XMystique, I would be hesitant to buy one now based on what I just read on their home page:

"From February 1, 2006, BlueGears will not be liable for any past, current, and future of any sales, support, and RMA issues for HDA X-Mystique and VR-Fidelity. For sales, support, and RMA issues, please contact stephane@auzentech.com (Tel: 408-519-5825)."

That, and their inability to create a properly working 64-bit driver.

Neither has VIA with their crappy driver support for cards such as the AV-710.

I don't know why they ruined the drivers for that one. Everything was working great last time I had it.

I don't think they've ever had the drivers quite right for this one.

Makes me nervous about possibly getting the DTS one.

I was waiting for that to come out, I hope people review it soon!

I would LOVE to get rid of my analog cables, god do they make a mess and sure are a pain.

Mmm..nice.

I really don't have any reason to upgrade from the X-Mystique but I might do it anyway because I'm crazy.

I haven't played a 3d game in months.

I could go back to my AV-710 and be happy still 😉

I am looking to change as my Audigy 2 ZS gives me static and quiet pops through the digital connection...I don't know why.

So the latest drivers are not the best? What should I be using with my 710?

In other news, I just got my new monitor
