Blue Tooth mouse problem

I have a MBP 15" with a Blue Tooth Mouse. When I am on the road in my vehicle, I put the MBP on my lap, up against the steering wheel. I then use the mouse on my right thigh.

The problem is, the Blue Tooth works erratically on my thigh which is below the level of the keyboard. When I raise the mouse to the level of the key board, it works fine.

As a fix, I have a usb mouse that works fine. What I don't like about the usb mouse is the sending unit (yes it's a streamlined unit) sticking out of my otherwise perfectly clean (no protruding devices) sides.

Any ideas?

What brand is the bluetooth mouse? I cannot think what could be causing it, but some sort of interference must be happening since bluetooth has a range of like 10 meters minimum.

Also, maybe don't use the laptop in the car?

It's a Microsoft Blue Tooth 5000 mouse.

I thought interference might be an issue in the car. I tried it at home with the same problem. One thing I haven't done yet is replace the mouse.

It could also just be interference of the laptop itself, do you know where your bluetooth adapter is located on your laptop? If the signal is having to go through most of the laptop it could be affecting it. Do you have a USB BT adapter you can stick on that side of the laptop?

Also... this doesn't sound very safe..

I would certainly hope that he isn't driving when he has the laptop propped up on the keyboard and is trying to mouse around... I mean, wow.
