What the hell does "Sound Active!" mean? If I yell at the computer the light will flicker or something? This seems cool but more info (on the seller's site) would be nice. Especially, does it come with a computer PSU power adapter, or do I have to buy that as well?

It means that sound will cause the light to flicker in sync. Not sure about your other questions.

it looks like the one I got from a computer fair a couple months ago....
it has a switch on it so it can be put on always on, or on when "sound activated". I guess if you had it on a subwoofer then, it would do something, but it's basically "thump" activated 😉 If it is the same type as I have, it does not have a to turn on or off. I had to make one myself 🙂 It does have a connector to connect to the power supply, but, I rewired it so that I could fit a switch in there, and then attached the switch to the front of one of the empty drive plates.
Here's some pictures of it Link (I didn't put it inside my case, because I don't have a window....yet 😉)

Disclaimer: All the above information is about the one I got, and this one that they have may not be the same as what I have. 🙂
Here's a pic of the technical specs that I have.

Hopfully it's not too sensitive, since I have a lot of case fans it would be rather pointless if the noise from the fans set off the light.

Hmm..... that's interesting..... so you wired your light on the outside of your case?
😕

This may be a dumb question but are you guys suggesting that the light would be an "on" state and flicker to music or would be in an "off" state and flicker on to music. You would need constant noise for it to even look cool in which case loud case fans might be ideal.

Thanks for the info! It looks like you have the same light. So, to answer the question above, this light will flicker when it hears a loud noise... so if your subwoofer is near the computer, it will flicker when the sub thumps. That is all gathered from the info above, I have no outside source for that information. I was thinking about trying to put this in the front panel of my Antec, but I can see from those pictures it is way too big and bright. Thanks again, those were very useful.

no problem 🙂

(yes, it is on the outside tee hee hee..but I plan on making a window on my case, so then I'd either move it inside, or put MORE lights...muahhahha (probably the second option) and yes, it is off, and flickers on with sound, or the switch on the light itself can be switched from sound activated, to the always on position.

FYI, Walmart sells these for an everday low price of $10! They have purple, red, and blue I believe. They have tons of other neons too, but they are more expensive. BTW, they're in the auto section.

No offense to the guy who has this light on the side of his case but I've seen these lights at computer shows and I personally think they suck. Let me clear a couple things up.

First of all, this light "flickers on" when it feels vibration as opposed to sound so loud fans aren't gonna cut it. If it were actually sensitive to sound it would have some sort of microphone input but it doesn't. I remember banging my hand on the table watching the light go on and off real quick while saying to myself "This is stupid". However, there is a sensitivity switch on it, though I don't see it being much use anyway.

Second, I think the light looks kinda bland compared to some cold cathode lights and black light kits I've installed before. I ended up buying a cheaper version of this light without the "sound active" effect just cause it's a really cheap kit that's simple to install (just plug it in).

I've seen other light kits out there that actually plug into the line-out of a soundcard that actually look cool. One that I saw was like $50 at a show. It looked crystalized and had a sound passthrough plug (it connects between the sound card and speakers). The light pulsates with music/sound and it had a pretty sweet effect. Anyway, this is cheap, but don't think it'll do wonders.

Neons are usually bigger in size (diameter mostly) and create some sort of heat (might be very low though). On the other hand cold cathodes are nice and thin, expose more light, and dont create no heat whatsoever. Hope this helps.

cold cathodes dont emit much heat (at all?), are supposedly brighter and last much longer, IIRC.
