Hardware:
Shuttle X48 LGA 775 Mobo
SilenX 450W PSU
Sapphire ATi 4870
Intel E8600 OC'D to 4.0 GHZ Stock Voltage
WD 300GB Raptor
2GB Corsair RAM
TPLink USB Wireless Adapter with Windows 7 64 Bit Drivers
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit

Situation:
Currently having issues in which I was using Google Chrome, VLC Media Player, and AIM and all of a sudden a Blue Screen comes up and it said "Unknown Hard Error". I shut it down, and as it tried to boot up, it had trouble, but it made it back to Windows but Google Chrome stopped working. I google searched for this using Mozilla Firefox, and someone said they had the same exact problem (watching video, blue screen unknown hard error, google chrome stopped working) and they said the code was "STOP: c0000b2e". I do not know for sure if that is mine...but it seems strangely similar. The only things that have changed lately for me are...

1. Speaker setup. They are old, they may not be magnetically shielded, but they're also at LEAST a foot away from my PC.
2. Downloaded a TV show episode and watched it via VLC Media Player. My friend was watching it and had no issues.
3. Google chrome was updated to the newest version.

I googled everywhere, and checked all culprits. The CPU is overclocked, but I did an extremely long stress test on it to make sure it was stable, and it is stable. The memory was checked and tested before I got this desktop by a member here. Hardware Monitor shows that all things have always been within proper temperatures. HDTune statistics show that there is NOTHING wrong with this hard drive, and it is very new so it is unlikely there are errors with it. I ran a Malwarebytes Anti Malware scan and no malware was detected. I run CCleaner routinely to keep everything clean, and only the default settings so it doesn't delete too much. The error also has not come up since I have uninstalled Google Chrome, but the thing is, I have only had the "updated" google chrome for a day or two, because it is a VERY recent update. I don't really know if I can cause the same conditions to cause this error to happen again. I really hope it's not an issue with the windows image install, because the user before me installed it but I highly doubt anything went wrong with it. All the drivers are up to date as well, and all Windows updates are downloaded.

Any ideas guys?

New issue, new post....

Now sometimes after I use FireFox and I close it, it won't open up again if I click FireFox again and I have to log off to be able to open it up again. WTF? Why is this stuff happening now? Very annoying.....not sure if it is related to the issue(s) above

When did you get this machine from this other user? I would say just to be sure do another MemTest86 test and makes sure it doesn't get any errors. Even if it gets one, the memory will be bad.

He ran an overnight memory test, then sent it to me. Any other ideas, just to have other ideas?

Ran another overnight memory test. 11 passes no errors. Memory is definitely out of the equation now...

Identical Problem happened in my case today as explained by the first poster.

I have a high power gaming desktop that is functioning well (brand new) for almost a month now.

Today I was running google chrome and Microsoft Excel. The only external device attached is a Western Digital hard disk via USB 2.0

Suddenly the hard disk clicked (perhaps because of the sudden stop) and I got a unknown hard error. I didn't note down the code. I restarted the computer with reset button and everything else except Google Chrome was fine (including temperatures).

I did some research and found rootkit infection. Using kaspersky tool, I cleaned the rootkit trojan - http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684

Google Chrome still didn't work. Then I right clicked on the shortcut and changed the compatibility to Windows Vista SP3 and since then it has been running fine.

I am pretty sure it wasn't my hardware that caused me issues. It was something else. If the original poster still reads my post, please post what happened in your case if you happened to resolve the problem, thank you.

EDIT: In my case, Malwarebytes is actively running, and so is Avira AntiVir antivirus program, both rendered useless by the rootkit trojan because Kaspersky found it. But that apparently didn't solve the chrome problem. Chrome was reinstalled but in vain, until compatibility was switched. I was fine before the Blue screen.

EDIT: After a couple of hours, I unchecked the compatibility run in Google Chrome shortcut properties, and it works just fine now. No clue what happened! It could be that rootkit trojan that caused the reboot? Not sure.
