Hi guys,

My computer only does this while playing WoW (mostly only when I have vent and firefox up at the same time).

I try not to run my browser while playing to reduce this error but it is quite annoying as I can play Crisis with high graphics, battlefield 2, COD:MWF 2, and any other game without this issue.

My system specs are below:

Core i7 860 (stock clock), Gigabyte P55 MB, EVGA 256mb 8800GT video card, OCZ Obsidian 4gb ddr31600 memory (2 x 2gb), OCZ 600w power supply, and I'm running Windows 7 home premium.

bsod is a hardware issue. If it happens when you're gaming then start thinking video card. are you overclocking?

Make sure your voltage and timings are set properly in the bios. Your OCZ Obsidian ram uses the following specifications:

Cas Latency 9
Timing 9-9-9-24
Voltage 1.65V

Thanks Davey, it did happen that my MB was using 7-7-7-16 timings by default for some reason. I switched them to what you have above and it runs at 1066, I did go to the OCZ support website and it's telling me, as you are, to change the DRAM voltage to 1.65V and the QPI/VTT to 1.35v.

My issue with this is my bios is telling me this is dangerous, but I did it anyway and changed my memory clock to 10 so I was getting 1333 instead of 1066. My only problem here is that my computer won't even boot when I change it to this setting. It goes to the initial load screen then just a black screen which is telling me something is def wrong with these settings.

Yeah I'm getting to that point, going to try putting in my buddies RAM this weekend to see if that works, he has some ddr3 1600 memory that works fine in his i7 920 so that should run fine in mine.

Why would BIOS not run the correct settings by default? Is that because of the MB or the RAM? This RAM actually got tons of bad reviews on newegg that it doesn't work or doesn't work at the claimed speeds.

Do not manually set the timings. Set the BIOS to 'By SPD' (Serial Presence Detect). The RAM will be configured to the manufacturers settings.

Additionally, are you sure it is RAM? Have you run MemTest or Prime95 to verify?

Finally, BSOD is not limited to a hardware issue. It is simply an unrecoverable error as the process that had failed was critical to the system running.

What process is specifically causing the BSOD? It should list it near the top of the error before address information.
